Join our aquatics department as a lifeguard and get $100 as a sign on bonus plus an additional $100 after 6 months of part time or full-time employment.

No certifications or training needed, training provided. You just need to possess a passion for water safety, the ability to swim and a friendly disposition. That easy!

Job Description:

  • Program Responsibilities
  • Arrive on deck, in uniform, ready to open pool promptly at scheduled time.
  • Smile and greet members courteously.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and implementing a full composition of aquatic special events to include but not be limited to lap swim incentives and water walking incentives.
  • Monitor lap swimmers and designate fast or slow lanes when required.
  • Explain class and pool procedure to program participants, enforcing all posted pool rules.
  • Provide friendly courteous service to all members, clients and volunteers of the YMCA.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor on appropriate forms.
  • Wear appropriate lifeguard attire as requested by supervisor.
  • Attend all staff meetings scheduled by supervisor.
  • Secure ALL pool doors at the end of your shift unless properly relieved by another certified staff member.
  • Communicate to all program participants and all members all program and membership promotions in-person as well as via email and telephone.
  • Administer and log all Ellis required documentation, including but not limited to, Oxygen and Emergency Equipment, AED Inspections, VAT's, Chemical Logs
  • Chemical testing and documentation
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the Aquatics Director to assist in operations and program management.
  • Fiscal Responsibility

  • Supervision of Personnel
  • Supervise lifeguards to ensure compliance with Ellis and Associates policies and inform the Aquatics Director of any concerns or non-compliance.
  • Supervise swim instructors to ensure smooth operation of swim lesson programming.
  • Creation of Bi-Weekly Guard and Swim instructor schedule (with assistance and approval from Aquatics Director)
  • Facilitate guard coverage for call outs and shift changes
  • Enforcement of scheduled shifts and start times
  • Facility/Housekeeping Responsibilities
  • Properly test water for chemical balance and record at assigned times. Report any problems immediately to Aquatics Director.
  • Check all safety equipment at the beginning of the shift, reporting any problems in writing to supervisor.
  • Follow daily maintenance schedule as assigned including hosing deck, brushing down pool walls, cleaning staff office, reporting all problems in writing to supervisor.
  • Maintain highest level of cleanliness in pool area.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • 1-3 years related experience
  • Current Lifeguard certification with Ellis and Associates and current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED and Supplemental Oxygen Support or ability to recertify if previously held a lifeguard certification
  • Ellis Lifeguard Trainer preferred, however, will train/certify the right candidate.
  • Experience in teaching swim lessons and managing swim lesson programs is preferred.
  • WSI certification preferred.
  • Must be able to perform all physical tasks of a Lifeguard as well as lift an adult male from the pool onto the pool deck.
