SUMMARY
Atrius is launching a new LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine specialty within its Internal Medicine/Family Medicine department. The Social Worker in this job will function as an expert within the Atrius BH department on the BH needs of the LGBTQ+ community and will use that expertise to support patients in meeting their behavioral health needs. The LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine Social Worker will serve as an independent behavioral health clinician and provide diagnostic evaluations of patients enrolled in the LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine program. They will provide crisis intervention, conduct individual psychotherapy appropriate to the patient’s problem and create and run group curriculum tailored to the LGBTQ+ adult patient needs. The LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine Social Worker will coordinate care with and provide consultation to other behavioral health, medical and community providers. They will participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams, develop treatment plans, and review treatment plans regularly.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Assesses needs of patients upon receipt of referral from physician, medical Social Worker, other clinician, or health insurance plan. Develops appropriate treatment plan. Specific focus on LGBTQ+ adult patients, as this role is specifically paired with the LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine program and will support patients who opt into the program.
§ Creates proprietary Atrius Adult LGBTQ+ group psychotherapy curriculum(s) tailored to unique behavioral health needs among the LGBTQ+ community (i.e., coming out, family dynamics and chosen family, exploring gender or sexuality, prejudice, and discrimination.
§ Participates as a member of the LGBTQ+ Adult Medicine team; offers input and feedback on areas for program improvement or new offerings.
§ May provide clinical supervision for interns, trainees, or fellows.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in social work. Current LICSW. American Heart Association Basic Life
Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
EXPERIENCE
Three years progressively autonomous experience with group, individual and family therapy required. Experience in LGBTQ+ adult care strongly preferred. Expertise as demonstrated by prior professional or academic work.
SKILLS
Demonstrated ability to assess patient needs, develop, and implement a plan of care. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to show high level of sensitivity to patient needs and concerns. Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.
