The Legislative and Government Affairs Coordinator serves as the primary contact for local governments of the District and assists the Legislative and Governmental Affairs Chief in legislative, governmental, and community affairs matters.

Must have a commitment to the District's core values of respect, integrity, teamwork, professionalism, and public service.


Job Duties Include:

  • Analyze various legislation pertaining to water resources and natural systems and assess impact on District operations.
  • Build and maintain relationships, identify and resolve issues, coordinate water resource issues, and communicate in public forums.
  • Assist in developing strategies for communicating information to address high visibility issues, responds to public inquiries, and performs other public duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate governmental and community issues for the District.
  • Assist with coordination of legislative issues for the District.
  • Serve as the District's primary contact for receiving inquiries, comments, suggestions, criticisms, or complaints from the local and regional governments.
  • Coordinate and assist with targeted outreach efforts to address specific resource issues and concerns when appropriate, coordinate with the appropriate District divisions and offices, and collaborate with other appropriate agencies to ensure consistent and accurate communications.
  • Assist with monitoring of local and regional water and natural resource issues and communicate emerging issues to key District staff; work proactively and in a timely manner with local governments to identify and resolve water and natural resource issues related to the District.
  • Present District information to civic, business, and other special interest groups, as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison with government officials, community leaders, and external organizations to communicate District polices and goals.
  • Identify and participate in key community events representing the District and providing information on District programs and projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a major specific to division/office activities. Graduate level degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of subsequent and relevant experience in local government may substitute for education.
  • Florida Certified Contract Manager (FCCM) preferred.
  • Valid drivers’ license.

Base Salary: Starting at $45,801.60, Starting salary commensurate with selected candidate's competencies and qualifications.
