Position Overview

The School of Music at The Ohio State University seeks to hire a 9-month full-time Lecturer of Voice starting August 15, 2024. This appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. 

The School of Music is seeking candidates with a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse body of students at both the undergraduate and graduate level and seeks a collaborative colleague with exemplary communication skills, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.

The successful candidate will play an important role in enriching the student experience of Voice studies at Ohio State through providing teaching and mentorship to students as they pursue a diverse range of academic and professional goals.

In addition to classical singing contexts, candidates should demonstrate performing and teaching expertise within contemporary, commercial, and amplified musical settings which could include popular music, musical theatre, crossover, and jazz. Performance Objectives

  • Effectively teach Applied Voice in both contemporary and classical contexts.
  • Participate in School of Music service activities, attracting and retaining voice students, and faculty governance.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate voice majors, and provide an emphasis on vocal health.
  • Additional teaching responsibilities may include Class Voice, Voice Pedagogy, or other duties according to the needs of the school, and the abilities and interests of the candidate. Applied Jazz Voice and Applied Voice for Musical Theatre are possible future offerings.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required: Master of Music required. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education, and a record of professional performance experience.

Desired: Doctor of Musical Arts preferred. A candidate with a low voice performance disposition is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a culturally diverse intellectual community in line with Ohio State’s Shared Values.

The School of Music, housed in the new Timashev Family Music Building, is home to a faculty of nationally and internationally recognized performing artists, composers, scholars, and master teachers who are specialists in their fields. The faculty serves a student body of approximately 300 undergraduate and 90 graduate music majors, as well as hundreds of non-music majors who are pursuing music minors, taking classes, or participating in one of the many performance ensembles.
