Position SummaryLocated 45 minutes from the Nation’s Capital, nestled in a history-rich community of southern Maryland, The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is a two-time Aspen Award-winning institution (top 15% of Community Colleges) with academic programs in over 100 disciplines. The Learning Support Services (LSS) Coordinator is the academic bridge between Division of Learning and Student Equity and Success for student Support Services by overseeing the development, coordination, and delivery of a range of educational assistance programs and services. The LSS Coordinator holistically assesses the academic and personal needs of a student for the purpose of developing interventions and strategies for and with students that impact retention to goal completion.
Additionally, the Coordinator partners with faculty as a resource for faculty development and the provision of student development and retention expertise to assist students in becoming independent and collaborative learners throughout their academic and personal lives. The coordinator collaborates with other academic/student services departments through referral services to promote student progression and success. Other responsibilities include managing the Learning Support Services Center; providing training for staff, tutors and faculty to support the classroom experience; and serving the college through committee and community participation.

  • Assess and connects students to resources and interventions to move past barriers that impact their progression, retention, success, and personal development:
  • College-wide student case management facilitation.
  • Manages the academic alert system for at-risk students.
  • Academic Coaching.
  • Supporting students in poor/declining academic standing; including re-entry counseling.
  • Intrusive Action Planning for work/life balance and goal clarification.
  • Manage referral process for Support Services.
  • Advocacy and mediation as needed.
  • Research student records and history, as appropriate, to assess their overall progression, retention, success, and barriers for informed administrative decision making and student advocacy.
  • Maintain detailed records of intervention outreach.
  • Management of remote work environment.
  • Resource to the community for service and program information to support external students.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with college community through committee work and informal meetings.
  • Assists with development of unit level annual goals and assessment plan.
  • Oversight and maintenance of Learning Support Services website
  • Develop and execute success resources in response to student needs; including workshops and programs.
  • Manage the campus Learning Support Services Center:
  • Regulate a collection of student support resources.
  • Ensures security and safe access of space, technology, and supports for students.
  • Develop material and provide support for collaborative learning.
  • Oversee the tutoring services, including professional development and training. Minimum Education and Training
  • Bachelor's Degree Required in relevant field, i.e. Education, Psychology, or Social Sciences.
  • Two years student development and/or program administration experience required. Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, the Internet, electronic mail, and scheduling tools.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and management skills.
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively as well as autonomously.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and/or human relation skills.
  • Proven interpersonal communication, presentation, and writing skills are required.
  • Budgetary experience.
  • Evidence of Creative Problem Solving.
  • Knowledge of and experience in using educational technologies/software applications.
  • Established ability to adapt and function effectively within a fast-paced, flexible work environment.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and experience in delivering education and training programs.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with college administrators and faculty.
    Physical Requirements:
    The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
