The Lead Program Instructor duties include teaching a hands-on summer science program to students entering grades 7-9; emphasizes inquiry-based learning, outdoor field investigations, and use of scientific method skills. Teaches daily lessons emphasizing science inquiry and process, both in the classroom and outdoors. Works cooperatively with the Environmental Educator in charge of the program to organize four weeks of hands-on, inquiry-based curriculum around a selected environmental science theme.
Bachelor's degree in education, biology or related field. Ability to conduct outdoor field science and nature education. Available to work 40 hours per week for four consecutive weeks starting on June 17 through July 12, as well as the Saturday morning preceding the start of the program. Also, a maximum of 15 hours prior to program for curriculum development and a maximum of 15 hours after program for curriculum revisions. Upon employment, must successfully complete and obtain certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Regularly required to lift and carry equipment, canoes, and/or backpacks, up to 50 pounds, over a variety of distances and terrains. Ability to climb, stoop, bend, reach, walk, sit, kneel or stand for long periods of time.
