General Summary:
This role is responsible for providing financial & administrative support in the Finance Department and interacting with staff and volunteers from the AMTA, the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF), and the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCB). This is a hybrid position. Most of the week, candidates will work from home. After the initial onboarding process, candidates must be willing to commute to our Evanston office at least once a week, depending on the department's needs.
This position is responsible for the following items: review of all payables to ensure appropriate documentation has been collected, confirm all 1099 vendors are reported accurately, ensure payments are made in a timely fashion, manage the review and collection of all corporate credit card receipts, ensure expenses are reported in the correct fiscal periods, and recording of accrual entries when needed. Candidates must be able to lead by example and communicate clearly and professionally, even during high-pressure situations. Because of the interaction with volunteers, candidates must also be able to explain accounting concepts in layperson’s terms.
Responsibilities:
- Review and ensure that proper approvals and account coding are on all vendor invoices, check requests and expense reports before entering them into the accounting system;
- Enters approved invoices, check requests and expense reimbursements on a timely basis;
- Ensures expenses are properly recorded under the accrual method of accounting and consistent with generally accepted accounting principles;
- Explains accounting transactions to all internal and external customers to resolve discrepancies;
- Assist in training AMTA chapter volunteers. Topics could include (but are not limited to) budgeting, best practices, and the use of AMTA-preferred applications such as CVENT. Training can occur in various ways, such as one-on-one, in-person group presentations, virtual, live, and pre-recorded formats.
- Receive Corporate MasterCard expense reports to reconcile expenditures;
- Field phone calls from chapter volunteers and questions from internal staff regarding payments and other accounting questions;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting procedures and the ability to apply them;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial records;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;

- Must have the flexibility to handle multiple tasks while working independently;
- Knowledge and ability to work with volunteers;
- Must be able to analyze the workload and determine priorities while completing assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner;

- Must be able to independently identify when an expense needs to be deferred to a different fiscal period.
- Must be able to determine the appropriate journal entries, to fix invoices that were posted incorrectly.
- Must be willing to offer suggestions to help improve a process.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred;
- 7-10 years of experience in an accounting position required;
- Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel. (an Excel proficiency assessment will be given)
Comments:
This position will be an integral component of the Finance Department; being aware of all aspects of the department and responding to requests from other departments and external sources, such as chapter volunteers, are essential to this position’s success.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $73,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
