Job Description
Lead, Interior Technician
The Interior Lead Tech - Upholstery Shop is an hourly non-exempt position which requires an advanced knowledge and experience with general aircraft interior upholstery. This includes crew, cabin lavatory, divan seating, re-covering curtain and baggage compartment-covering and sewing, pattern-making, foam build-up, panel sewing and re-covering. Work order processing, vendor coordination, inter-company communication, projects as designated by the Interior Supervisor. Will also be required to work on several projects and coordinate with the Department Manager to meet down times. Must work effectively with other departments within West Star. Will also be required to work independently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Communicate with customers as needed
• Design seat pattern according to customer and designer specifications.
• Sew, modify and install seat covers using sewing machine, foam saws, glue guns and other hand tools.
• Recover flat work where minimal sewing is involved.
• Re-foam seats as specified by work order using upholstery equipment.
• Assist with disassembling and reassembling of seats on an as-needed basis.
• Prepare and paint frames as needed.
• Knowledge of FAA flammability requirements for interior materials.
• Ensure accuracy of work orders: complete and inspect for delivery to inspection department.
• Attend debriefings as needed with customers.
• Schedule jobs to meet completions and deadlines of projects.
• Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Supervisory training classes preferred.
Experience
3-5 years of experience on aircraft upholstery.
2-3 years heavy modification experience including FAA paperwork preferred.
Initiative
Self-motivated and able to maintain a consistent pace.
Able to process work with minimum supervision.
Responsibility
Must perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.
Maintain customer oriented work habits.
Perform major modification work.
Contacts
Other technicians in Interior Department or other departments.
Supervisor or Interior Manager
Company sales representatives.
Customers and / or outside vendors.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.
Routing or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands with emphasis on grasping, feeling and finger dexterity.
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
Mental Requirements
Understanding implementation of regulations and guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, haz mat, etc.
Ability to communicate with employees, customers and vendors in a professional manner.
Ability to work with others in a professional manner.
Ability to read various reports and blue prints.
Ability to plan and organize procedures and operations.
Supervision
Work with under supervision of assigned Interior Team Leader and Interior Manager.
Will supervise team of technicians.
Work with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
The majority of work will be accomplished in a non-climate controlled hangar or shop area.
Work in aircraft on ramp on occasion.
Varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used
Basic upholstery equipment.
Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
Cutters, glue guns and metal benders.
Computer, copy machine, work order print outs and standard office equipment
