Sr. Electrical Engineer – Detroit, MI
Members of the Automation and Process Innovation team innovate new processes and develop new concepts including the supporting automation. This role employs both new technologies and processes to either create new ways of doing business or to make improvements to the current business. Projects are multidisciplinary in nature and range from simple to complex. They typically involve the development and application of automation systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. Projects are cross-functional within the organization and often involve collaborating with technology supply partners. This role operates with minimal supervision or guidance.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Collaborate, develop and implement, with team members, on process innovation.
- Develop robotic and automation systems.
- Document work as needed such as requirements, design specifications, project plans, test plans, and test results).
- Partner on field testing activities. Collect test data, perform customer research and gather operational feedback. Observe and document test results. Draw conclusions from results to develop and evaluate design solutions and alternatives. Make recommendations to senior leadership.
- Work in and observe on a periodic basis, company stores, to gain an understanding of the existing store processes and technology. Use this understanding to aid in identifying improvement opportunities such as, concepts for automation, process simplification, reduction of labor cost or waste.

- Robotics and automation systems design.
- Machine learning and understanding artificial intelligence.
- Working with autonomous robots and vehicles.
- Development of embedded software and machine control systems.
- Design of application programming interfaces and network communications.
- User interface design such as graphical, ergonomics, software, and hardware.
- Servo systems and motion control.
- Mechanical design of robots and automated equipment.
- Electrical, logic, and safety systems design for automated machines.
- Application of collaborative robots.
- Sensors and machine safety devices.
- Vision sensing application development.
- Usage of CAD tools such as code development, electrical design, and 3D modeling.
Who You Are
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Systems).
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with mechatronic systems development associated with robotics, automated machinery, laboratory systems, test systems, manufacturing systems, etc.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to understand, implement customer/user needs and develop both market and design requirements.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate technical ideas and solutions to a wide variety of audiences.
- Proven ability to work in both a team and individual capacity with limited supervision.
- Ability to lead project teams for small to medium complexity projects.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, database, Internet, and documentation software required).
What Will Make You Stand Out:
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- More than eight (8) years of product and/or systems design experience.
Where You'll Work:
- Work takes place in a normal office setting, innovation labs, R&D test kitchens, and restaurants.
- Limited travel by car or airplane to various locations. (valid driver’s license required).
- The ability to lift, push or pull up to forty (40) pounds of weight is required in order to transport test equipment, etc.
