Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Software Engineer specializing in Vehicle Controls to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of embedded software for Magna's innovative New Mobility platforms, such as Last Mile Delivery Device (LMDD) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR). The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in developing automotive embedded software using AUTOSAR tools and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and document embedded software for designated products, following standard operating procedures and the product delivery process. This includes software design, coding in Simulink, C, C++, and Python.
  • Design software components and configure AUTOSAR software, including complex device drivers and RTE configuration.
  • Create custom software tools, such as visualization tools for camera, LIDAR, and RADAR using ROS or similar frameworks.
  • Develop software for vehicle connectivity, encompassing technologies like 5G cellular, Wifi, and Bluetooth for remote vehicle control, teleoperations, cloud data logging, and remote payment systems.
  • Manage subcontracted work for software development, including generating Statements of Work (SOW), tracking supplier activities, and monitoring deliverables.
  • Incorporate customer requirements, regulations, and product specifications into the design while ensuring compliance with Magna Software Development Process and other parameters.
  • Analyze products and apply engineering principles and tools to draw engineering conclusions.
  • Create engineering documentation, including specifications, requirements, plans, design documents, test reports, and change orders.
  • Creates engineering documentation for the following deliverables: Product Specification, Software Requirement Specification, Software Development Plan, Software Design and Implement Document, DVP&R's, 8D's test reports, software problem reports, engineering changes and work orders
  • Conduct software testing, validation, and verification activities using industry-standard tools, while implementing CICD pipelines for more efficient development and improved software quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate with project stakeholders, suppliers, and manufacturing and quality communities.
  • Support and drive best practices in design specifications, customer requirements, manufacturing processes, and safety requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise, review engineering directions, and oversee product testing to ensure the achievement of key deliverables.

Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded software development using C/C++ or other high-level programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge in software architecture development and software design.
  • Excellent understanding of AUTOSAR concepts, architecture, and specifications.
  • Hands-on experience in classic AUTOSAR configuration (OS/COM/MEM/DIAG/CRYPTO) and RTE integration.
  • Proficiency with AUTOSAR tools like Vector DaVinci, Elektrobit Tresos, ETAS ISOLAR, and AUTOSAR BUILDER.
  • Familiarity with compilers, emulators, and debuggers.
  • Sound understanding of vehicle-level bus communication protocols, such as CAN, Automotive Ethernet, and LIN.
  • Prior experience in automotive production launches is preferred.
  • Familiarity with embedded environments and hardware platforms like Freescale, ST, NXP, Infineon, Microchip, Atmel, etc.
  • Excellent skills in C, MATLAB, Simulink, ADTF, Python, LabVIEW, and other software design, development, and test tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in vehicle network tools like Vector CANALYZER, CANOE, and CAPL programming.
  • Knowledge of software processes and industry requirements such as ASPICE, ISO, IEEE, CMMI, MISRA, AUTOSAR, and ISO 26262.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong time management, resource planning, and communication skills.
  • Technical presentation and publication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, shift priorities, and adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Strong customer interface skills.

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in product and technology development in automotive electronics.
  • Functional understanding of complex mechatronic systems, electrified vehicle powertrain, and autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and cyber security (ISO/SAE 21434) standards is required.
  • Familiarity with Automotive SPICE (ISO 15504) and IBM Jazz/Doors NG is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving and moderation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Valid driver's license.
