Position Summary:
Center Of Praise Ministries seeks a passionate individual to join our staff in the Communications Department as a Lead Audio Engineer. The role of the Lead Audio Engineer is to innovatively create and produce all aspects of sound and sound-related media in a Christian church environment. The Lead Audio Engineer’s responsibility is to assemble, operate, and maintain the technical equipment used to record, amplify, enhance, mix, or reproduce sound. They identify the sound requirements for a given task or situation and perform the appropriate actions to produce this sound.
The Lead Audio Engineer reports to the Director of Communications, a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and operates in tandem with the Director of Worship and Fine Arts (member of SLT), Musicians, Videographer, Theater Arts Coach, Worship Production team, and Communications Manager to help give their work and products the desired audio quality.

Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Lead Audio Technician for COP weekly rehearsals, midweek service (when applicable), weekend celebrations, and other COP events and services as needed.
- Collaborate with the Worship and Fine Arts Director in ensuring weekend celebration services, worship nights, and additional services and events are covered by a qualified Sound Engineer (volunteer team).
- Attend all scheduled rehearsals and all services to support midweek and weekend Celebrations. If unable to attend, schedule a qualified Sound Engineer in your absence.
- Set up and operate sound equipment for all midweek and weekend Celebrations to ensure the best acoustic result.
- Maintain the upkeep of all equipment: periodic dusting/vacuuming, tidying workspaces, and organization of storage spaces.
- Follow instructions and details from the appointed members of the Senior Leadership Team or the person in charge of the event.
- Set up and test sound equipment before services, events, broadcasts, or recordings.
- Create a balanced and consistent audio mix to accompany the video of the Center of Praise Online Church streamed experience. This works in tandem with our Media Ministry and includes multi-track mixing with musicians, singers, video announcements, and various speakers which are viewed on the COP Website (cop.online.church), YouTube, and Facebook.
- Record, edit, and mix audio tracks (instruments, vocals, etc.).
- Record, edit, and mix audio tracks for Video Production projects. [Working in tandem with our Videographer and Media Team on special projects for promotional and edification purposes].
- Enhance the sound quality for in-person Celebrations and recordings.
- Work with video editors to synchronize video with audio tracks.
- Playback tracks and special effects during live theatrical events.
- Collaborate and consult with other areas of the Media Team.
- Resolve technical issues when they arise.
- Oversee the audio mixing for live streaming (Online Church).
- Recruit Sound Engineers and volunteers.
- Supervise all Sound Engineers and volunteers.
- Train and oversee the volunteer Audio Team. This includes producing a comprehensive training program and standard operating procedures for volunteers.
- Request resources from the Director of Communications before any purchase. Upon purchase, submit any Check Requests to the Executive Pastor for necessary approval promptly and carbon copy the Director of Communications.
- Attend weekly Media Team meetings.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Communications and Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Collaborate with the Director of Communications to support the worship life (habits) of the individual members (disciples) of COP.
Qualifications and Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, character, and ability.
- A high school diploma is required. A collegiate-level degree in audio/sound engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Be an effective team leader with experience in expressive worship experiences that coincide with the COP Ministry Strategy (WORSHIP, LEARN, and SERVE) activities of the church.
- Highly trained and technically competent and knowledgeable about live, recording production, sound for film, and sound for various types of events.
- Must be willing to learn new audio systems and platforms as needed.
- Possess a creative and innovative mind and a good ear.
- Knowledgeable about different audio recording and editing techniques.
- Technical expertise in sound engineering techniques (e.g. mixing, equalization, compression, Dante, Mac OS, etc.).
- Experience with sound editing and recording equipment (e.g., mixing consoles).
- Working knowledge of recording software and hardware (e.g., Logic, Pro Tools).
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Creativity and attention to detail.
- Ability to take direction and work as a team member.
- Problem-solving abilities including troubleshooting and researching remedies.
- Excellent hearing and manual dexterity.
- Regular, punctual attendance at all scheduled rehearsals, midweek, and weekend celebrations.
- Prompt notification of any planned or unexpected absences so a replacement can be secured.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels both inside and outside of the organization.

Pay: $31.50 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
