Description

We are seeking a supervisor who will lead the planning, preparation, and execution of the launch of vessels at the end of the project construction cycle.   As Launch Crew Launch Crew Lead reporting directly to the company’s Facilities and Maintenance Supervisor, you will plan for and serve as single point of contact leader for executing all vessel launches in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, environmental codes, and industry standards. As Lead, you will be assigned an additional set of tasks and responsibilities associated with the daily operations of the LAUNCH CREW and have authority to direct crew to accomplish tasks and obtain certifications. You will be responsible for leading and motivating the launch team by effectively communicating and continuously coaching team members to develop their skills and achieve department or project milestones and expectations.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage and integrate activity of all departments necessary for safe, efficient, and timely execution of all vessel launches. 
  • Directs a crew to assemble and disassemble the launch rig and set up blocking of vessels.  Creates and executes plans to maintain and enhance operational fitness of launch rig equipment between launches.
  • Work with engineering department  and Facilities supervisor to come up with a safe & efficient method of hauling, launching, or jacking a boat.
  • Accepts importance of schedules and impresses on team the need to execute all phases of launch effort to meet schedule.
  • Attend project and haul/launch meetings as required.
  • Creates and executes plans to maintain and enhance operational fitness of launch rig equipment between launches.
  • Complies and sets example for standards of excellence safety, quality, and productivity fellow LAUNCH CREW members and supplemental teams gathered to affect the vessel launch.
  • Makes effort towards new ideas and improvements with safety and launch efforts.
  • Look ahead and plan for: project labor, sub-contractors, material, equipment, quality assurance, and final launch /delivery of vessels and/or subassemblies.
  • Work with Production Supervisors as needed to ensure the right quantity and types of loaned trades staff are available and assigned to adjunct launch activities / tasks to support launch effort.
  • Ensures safe set up and execution of all launch related assemblies and surrounding work areas ensuring all employees assigned to the projects follow company general and safety policies.
  • Follows up at the job site during launch events several times a day to ensure proper progress and resolve issues.
  • Minds the progress of launch events by assuring all involved are properly supervised.
  • Provides necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, and procedures to safely complete the launch.
  • Ensures through personal inspections that correct launch procedures are followed and work is in compliance with the plans and specifications. Points out deficiencies, explains and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Attends daily production meetings and coordinates their assignments with other shops and trades to assure projected goals are met and all issues are being addressed.
  • Makes effort towards new ideas and improvements with safety and launch efforts.
  • Owns and takes pride in launch equipment and tooling.
  • Creates and executes plans to maintain/enhance operational fitness of launch rig equipment between launches.
  • Fosters positive working relationship between LAUNCH CREW and partner and client departments.
  • Clean and organize before, between and after haul/launch evolutions.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversees and directs all tasks associated with the launch operations, including, jack and level the vessels; assembling the launch rig to various hull configurations; assembly and disassembly of launch rail systems,
  • Ensures employees under his or her supervision are properly directed and have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings to accomplish assigned work.
  • Complies and sets example for standards of excellence safety, quality, and productivity fellow LAUNCH CREW members and supplemental teams gathered to affect the vessel launch.
  • Communicate and coordinate scope and sequence of work with all Trade Supervisors.
  • Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision.
  • Ensures that employees on his or her crew are qualified to perform their work.
  • Participates and contributes to toolbox meetings and communicates safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules.

  • Ability to adhere to variable work schedule driven in large part by tides and launch schedules and ability to motivate team to do same.  Requires flexibility to work at different hours than regular production schedule.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics & to learn how our hydraulic system works.
  • Previous experience as equipment of crane operator in shipyard environment and knowledge of capabilities of different launch rig configurations.
  • Basic mechanical experience.
  • Knowledge of Welding and Fitting
  • Willingness to work odd hours for launching & hauling of vessels, because of tides.
  • Proficiency in understanding tides, reading tide charts, and taking them into account when planning and executing work.
  • Needs to have a boater’s card to run a skiff & to understand what our skiff is used for.
  • Needs a valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of and ability to torch and have some welding experience.
