Laboratory Assistant - Microbiology at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital in Spokane, WA

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of laboratory functions, which may include the following: Maintains laboratory supplies by ordering, receiving and stocking them. Answers the telephone and relays messages. Performs general laboratory duties including general cleaning, instrument maintenance, copying, faxing, transcribing and scanning results, and other related duties. Registers patients and accessions specimens into the computer system. Labels, processes and distributes samples. Prints pending logs. Prints, copies and distributes reports depending upon department. Complete other duties specific to each individual department. Follows the principles outlined Compliance/Integrity Program Handbook and adheres to all regulatory requirements for this position. Utilizes age related concepts for neonates (0-1 month) infants (1 month to age 1) toddlers (1-2 years), preschoolers (3-5 years), school age (6-12 years) of adolescents (ages 13-17) and adult patients including early adult (ages 18-35) middle adult (ages 36-65) and older adult (ages 66+) when communicating with patients and families, using medical equipment, or participating in diagnostic or other procedures.

Shift/Schedule Details: Part Time, Evening Shift - every weekend and every other Monday; evening shift starts at 1:30 pm and ends at 10:00 pm.

Preferred Qualifications:

• H.S. Diploma or GED
• Documentation of a higher education
• Coursework/Training Medical Assistant course
• BACE (Biotechnician Assistant Credentialing Exam) certificate
• Computer experience
• Laboratory or related science experience
