Responsible to: LABORATORY SUPERVISOR
Responsible for: Does not supervise other employees
Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with department staff, all hospital departments, medical staff, and patients
JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts routine tests for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, and performs related duties, following established pre-analytical, analytical, and post- analytical standards and practices.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE: Preferred, but not required
EDUCATION: Associate/Bachelor degree
CERTIFICATION: Medical Laboratory Technician
Medical Technologist
ASCP or AMT registry
Essential functions: Frequent prolonged standing/sitting/walking
Motor coordination and manual dexterity
Repetitive movements
Stooping/reaching/kneeling/pushing/pulling/lifting
Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
Ability to carry out procedures as outlined
Eye-hand coordination
Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses
Normal speech and hearing

Conditions Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens

JOB DUTIES:
- Obtains and processes specimens for quality patient testing.
- Performs laboratory testing as outlined in the policy and procedure manuals.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Follows the Universal Precautions Policies
- Maintains required records, reports, and statistical information as directed.
- Processes specimens for reference laboratory and pathology services.
- Orders supplies as necessary to maintain adequate inventory.
- Assists other personnel as required or requested for specimen collection and processing.
- Follows manufacturer guidelines for all laboratory equipment.
- Performs, troubleshoots, and monitors quality control daily
- Reviews reference laboratory reports, and follows up as needed.
- Consults with other medical personnel as required.
- Participates on various committees as requested.
- As electronic systems evolve, learn to use the hardware and software associated with them and how they are integrated within our laboratory system.
- Experience and competent in blood bank tube methodology.
- Phlebotomy skills for all age ranges
- Good communication skills
