POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Technician/Sample Runner travels to various projects, aggregate pits and labs sites throughout UT to obtain samples. They will then perform materials sampling and testing in the laboratory.
DUTIES:
- Duties will be to assist in testing of samples in the labs.
- Travel to various projects, aggregate pits and labs to procure samples.
- Split samples and perform necessary testing.
- Report results to plant.
- Perform data filing and quality assurance sample storage.
- Responsible to input tracking data into the lab database.
- Ensure a safe and healthful work environment at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of aggregate and asphalt products and industry quality standards, intermediate computer skills, ability to repeatedly safely move up to 70 lbs, and willing to develop knowledge of scales, shakers, ovens and sieves.
- Must be available to work variable shifts including day and swing shift. Travel required.
- 1 Year of Asphalt QC Testing Preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/SAFETY:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Sitting: 20% of time
- Standing: 80% of time
- Driving: Local travel mostly limited to 150 miles a day to various aggregate pits and construction projects.
- Weight Lifted: Must frequently be able to safely lift and carry up 75-100 pounds. For safe lifting, co-workers can assist with heavy objects. May occasionally lift items above their head.
- Physical Movement: May frequently be required to walk over uneven ground, balance, stoop/crouch, kneel, grab and hold objects. Several repetitive actions throughout the day such as carrying and lifting full buckets, splitting samples and other tasks as needed.
- Speaking / Listening: Needs to communicate clearly with supervisors and co-workers - particularly regarding understanding and following instructions and safety requirements with precision.
- Working Conditions: 20% of time will be spent working outside in the elements.
