DiscGenics is a privately-held, clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing regenerative cell-based therapies that alleviate pain and restore function in patients with degenerative disease of the spine.

Job Summary:

The Lab Calibration Technician is responsible for inspection, calibration, verification and maintenance of all laboratory equipment to meet established conformance standards. The Lab Calibration Technician will be responsible for performing routine maintenance according to the maintenance schedule or coordinating with external vendors or in-house experts to complete all tasks on time. The role may also be required to perform or coordinate non-routine repairs or calibration to ensure equipment is performing to internal standards.

This role interacts with all levels of the organization in a collaborative and positive way with colleagues to facilitate department and organizational initiatives for cultural cohesion aligned to the DiscGenics Values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site preventative maintenance (PM), calibration and verification of laboratory equipment, including but not limited to scales, balances, incubators, centrifuges, pipets and pH probes.
  • Complete all documentation supporting certification, verification and PM tasks for equipment.
  • Create/schedule and maintain calibration/verification and PM tasks in CMMS software.
  • Create and manage the update, review and release of controlled documents pertaining to all procedures performed (e.g., policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), forms, etc.).
  • Maintain all supplies required for internal maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Coordinate calibrations with outside vendors and review certificates for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with internal subject matter experts when needed for maintenance tasks and ensure tasks are completed according to the procedures.
  • Act as an internal resource to ensure lab equipment is operational.
  • Interface with cross functional teams as necessary to achieve end goals.
  • Adhere to quality management system policies and procedures in performance of work.
  • Performs other laboratory support functions as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in Biological, Biochemical, or Chemistry related field and/or applicable technical degree or certification related to laboratory equipment.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a biological lab or equivalent.
  • Previous experience with Calibration/verification procedures preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel.
  • Prior experience with CMMS programs preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think proactively.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.
  • Work independently and has creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential business information.
  • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Team leadership skills and team player.

  • Ability to report to work responsive, free from sedatives, and in a non-sedative state.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors in Biological, Biochemical, or Chemistry related field preferred and/or applicable technical degree or certification related to laboratory equipment.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in a biological lab or equivalent.

Working Conditions:

Position requires qualified individuals to see, hear and speak (verbally and audibly). Required to ascend and descend stairs; sit, stand, lift, bend, stoop, crawl and kneel. The employee must also use hands to finger, handle or feel. Occasionally reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing are required. May be asked to drive or travel by car, air, or other transportation for business purposes.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to function effectively with noise in a lab environment. Natural and regular stressors occur on the job.
