Laboratory Testing Services Technician Job Description

Lab Technicians at ACT run a variety of physical tests on painted parts or painted samples.

Physical properties tested include paint adhesion, stone chip resistance, tolerance to hot, cold, liquid water, humidity and artificial sunlight. The ability to protect the part from corrosion or rusting is a common test of a painted part.

In addition to physicals testing of painted samples, this Lab Technician position will prepare metal samples for corrosion testing. This preparation occurs in small Pilot Tanks and includes processing the metal samples through the same steps that Cars and Trucks are process through, prior to the Car or Truck being painted. The metal samples are processed through a series of water based solutions, where the metal is first cleaned and rinsed, followed by solutions that deposit rust preventative coatings.

The Lab Technician will:

Process metal samples through Pilot Tanks

Run industry standard Test Methods

Record test data and calculations in laboratory notebook

Draft test reports

Maintain laboratory equipment as required

Follow all procedures and policies as described in the Lab Quality Management System

Maintain excellent general housekeeping and observe all personal safety precautions

Perform other related duties as assigned

Education

Required: HS Diploma with STEM interests

Preferred: HS Diploma and 12+ Hours Chemistry/Physical Science college coursework
