The Position
Lab SupervisorJob Summary
Key Tasks and Responsibilities while maintaining a high level of integrity.
Supervise laboratory operations: Oversee the overall functioning of the laboratory, including managing workflow, scheduling union staff, and ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures.
Ensure compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable laboratory regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
Quality control and assurance: Implement quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Conduct regular audits and proficiency testing, and address any issues or discrepancies.
Staff management: Train, and supervise union laboratory personnel. Provide ongoing performance feedback, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and cost control. Implement new technologies, methodologies, and best practices to enhance laboratory performance.
Laboratory equipment and supplies: Manage inventory of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Collect and report quality data
Reduce waste and improve productivity at all the plants, in Lompoc, through production process control and automation initiatives
Oversees LIMS and ERP - corrects mistakes, adds missing product, and releases or verifies correct release of finished goods
Tracks plant metrics - daily production, non-conforming production
Baggie tests, color, JSFA, FCC and etc.
Schedules personnel to perform work needed for mine planning, process coverage for for production units, or special tests as required
Supports customer service - provides product samples, handles requests from customer service and technical service.
Handles customer complaints - investigations, corrective and preventative actions
Conducts/participates in audits
Trains QC personnel in analytical methods
Participates in certification and customer audits
Report Lab KPI’s
Reviews and approves batch records for GMP products
Maintains Kronos timecards, schedules vacations and ensures technician training requirements are up to date
Other duties as assigned:
Strong leadership and management skills to effectively supervise and motivate laboratory staff. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests and procedures. Proficient in laboratory information systems and other relevant software applications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization. Analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and ensure quality control. Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong understanding of laboratory operations and workflow optimization. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Minimum Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related discipline
Minimum Experience – 2+ years of current/recent experience in lab setting
Strong organizational, communication, data analysis, and tenacious problem solving skills
NOT a Remote position.
Salary Range: $80k - $100k DOE
