EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma/GED or relevant experience preferred but not required.
- Medical assistance or phlebotomy training from an accredited organization is preferred.
- Experience with phlebotomy, or experience in a medical laboratory environment is preferred.
- CPR Certification.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Performs clerical functions, phlebotomy, general laboratory duties, and courier duties.
- Must maintain patient confidentiality and limit use of PHI to minimal use.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- Have the ability to work well and effectively with others.
- Must demonstrate ability to communicate well with patients, physician offices, physicians, and other departments of the hospital.
- Responsible for filing of reports and other documents in the laboratory.
- Must assist in taking reports and picking up specimens at reference clinics and nursing homes.
- Responsible for driving to nursing homes to draw blood
- Responsible for taking reports to doctor’s mailboxes.
- Answers telephone according to hospital policy.
- Perform order and inventory every two weeks, and restock when necessary.
- Restocks drawing trays and outpatient drawing area.
- Responsible for shredding confidential material.
- If an individual possesses written certification(s) that would allow them to perform other patient care duties (i.e. assist with or perform IV starts or other procedures within the scope of their particular certification(s)), they may do so to help expedite patient care if requested. Such procedures should not unduly interfere with the performance of required duties.
- Maintenance of such certifications and records of continued competency are the responsibility of the individual and are not part of the routine laboratory competency for laboratory assistants, nor are they required to fulfill this job description.
- Performs any and all duties as assigned
This is a full-time, evening position with weekend requirement.
