KARMAN SPACE & DEFENSE: Karman is the market leading suppliers of metallic and composite flight hardware and sub-assemblies for the space, missile, and hypersonic markets. Karman is headquartered in greater Los Angeles and currently has 5 locations in Southern California and 1 location in Mukilteo, Washington.
SUMMARY
Create, implement, and direct the purchasing procedures and policies in support of the Quality Policy and Customer satisfaction. Provide project-based manufacturing support with purchasing and follow-up of commodity purchased items. Purchasing must be able to explain the respective role within the QMS and how their role contributes to quality (Ref. Quality Procedures). Purchasing shall contribute to product conformity as apart to their daily job function and shall contribute to product safety. Purchasing shall also be aware of ethical behavior and conduct themselves accordingly to AMRO policies and procedures (Ref. Employee Handbook).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and Realize AS 9100 procedures and continuous improvement efforts
- Implement a system that supports the company’s quality policy and commitment to continual improvement
- Review the effectiveness of the purchasing system on a periodic basis, and implement change / improvements as required
- Responsible for all aspects of the purchasing function
- Maintain and execute a purchasing plan to support short and long-term goals
- Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers
- Manage suppliers to achieve industry leading price reductions, superior quality and on time delivery
- Interact daily with Program Managers, and Supervisors to support production requirements.
- Must understand how customer products are impacted in the event of failure
- Any other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Four (4) year degree or equivalent in machine shop/metal fabrication
- At least one year of experience in planning
- Adequate years of experience in a manufacturing environment and / or training in a related field
- Must be detail oriented, extremely organized; posses excellent communication skills, and be able to interact well with Suppliers and Staff
- Basic computer skills including working knowledge and experience with word, spreadsheets and databases
- Knowledge of materials, hardware, specifications (military, ms, ns, etc.), processes (heat treat, plating, machining, etc.)
- Must have direct communication with internal customers
- Must be trained of applicable changes & customer requirements
- Must know the QMS basic system of reporting, record keeping and follow instructions
