POSITION SUMMARY:

Reviews and analyzes purchase requisitions. Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning and engineering departments to acquire inventory in a cost effective and timely manner. Processes purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity. Participates in maximizing the procurement teams' changes, part parameters; quote table maintenance, supplier database information, error report analysis, and part number/supplier code information. Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities (e.g., materials, components, equipment and services). Monitors the cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to negotiate highest quality at best value. May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis or alternative sourcing. Interacts closely with suppliers and QA to resolve quality issues. Works with management to address all aspects of commodity management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability. Provides administrative support to executives, administrative, line and staff managers of complex details and advanced administrative duties.   Provides assistance to Procurement, Operations and other department in the monitoring, scheduling and purchasing of materials. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Places routine and repetitive purchase orders, utilizing the formal ERP/MRP system.
  • Places purchase orders to support quick turn requirements, such as new product development projects and DTI.
  • Obtains quotations to select quality vendors or to determine a make vs. buy decision.
  • Negotiates pricing for purchases and rentals as required.
  • Generates / uses supplier performance information to help suppliers meet targets: on-time delivery, quality, safety stocks, inventory levels, lead-times and total costs. Explicitly includes continuous improvement process.
  • Maintains PC based information for purchases and inventory position.
  • Expedites and troubleshoots orders when necessary. Handles return material authorizations and debit memos.
  • Provides vendor liaison to/ communication with Engineering and Production, including qualification of Supplier and product, coordination of new product or ECO cut-in, communication of requirements changes.
  • Coordinates with Supplier Quality to insure in-spec product and address any quality issues at both the recovery stage and longer term, longer term corrective actions to resolve root causes of problems.
  • May support Supplier Quality with data management activities, as required.
  • Generates change orders, order cancellations, return orders and general purchasing paperwork.
  • Provides analytical and specialized administrative support to relieve executive, administrative, and line and staff managers of complex details and advanced administrative duties.
  • Analyzes problems, determines approach, compiles and analyzes data, and prepares reports/recommendations.
  • Coordinates activities between departments and outside parties.
  • Contacts company personnel at all organizational levels to gather information and prepare reports.
  • Provides assistance in the monitoring, scheduling and purchasing of materials.
  • Keeps detailed inventory of production consumables.
  • Supports manufacturing general needs.
  • Capable of placing urgent purchase requests when purchasing is unavailable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience and 2 or more years of related experience.
  • Experience with PC software databases.
  • Facility with MS/Office (Excel, Word, etc).
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret MRP reports, purchase requisitions, RFQ's, and supplier contracts.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the organization.

 

DESIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations, specifically high tech electronic and fluid management.
  • Experience in purchasing in a volume manufacturing or research and development environment.
  • Familiarity with the Visibility ERP/MRP system.
  • Experience with JIT/Lean, statistically-driven quality & process controls (Six Sigma, SPC, APQP, etc) and vendor certification.
  • Active involvement and/or certification with ISM, APICS, etc.
