Junior Accountant

The Junior Accountantperforms standard accounting tasks such as completing account reconciliations, recording journal entries, maintaining accounts receivables, and running financial reports for the organization and its subsidiaries. This position will assist the senior accountant with the day-to-day accounting and the month-end close process to ensure all transactions are complete and accurate, follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and adhere to the organization's policy and procedures. The Junior Accountant will also support the donor and project management processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Perform the monthly close process by preparing journal entries and needed accruals.
• Ensure proper account and project coding for all financial transactions.
• Review monthly departmentals and provide commentary for the actual vs. budget variances.
• Prepare bank and general ledger account reconciliations/analysis; work with the finance team to resolve any reconciling items.
• Issue invoices to partner organizations and donors in collaboration with the Finance and Program Management teams.
• Generate AR reports, send statements, and perform needed follow-ups for all outstanding receivable accounts, including escalation to management.
• Assist in the annual audit process; responsible for preparation and tracking of audit confirmations, retrieval of journal entries, and other related functions.
• Serve as back-up to the Gift Processing Coordinator; process contributions in the Raisers Edge fundraising system when needed.
• Maintain fixed asset ledger by recording acquisitions, depreciation, and disposals.
• Perform other related duties and special projects as requested

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Minimum 1-2 years of prior general accounting experience preferred.
• Attention to detail, good organizational skills, ability to multi-task
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
• Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate cross-functionally across all levels
• Proficient in Office 365, with strong Microsoft Office Excel skills
• Experience with accounting software (Financial Edge) and donor management software(Raiser’s Edge), a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Written and verbal fluency in English is required, and fluency in French or Spanish is desirable.
