MTHS has an opening for a full-time IT Systems Administrator position. The best candidate is a motivated, energetic team member who loves IT management, enjoys supporting MTHS’s programs with valuable IT work, embraces the position’s role in leading an IT department of 2 full-time IT staff, and is excited to be a part of the behind-the-scenes IT efforts that support the Montana Heritage Center opening in early Fall 2025 and ongoing operations of the Montana Historical Society.
Function: The Information Technology office is one of six sections within the Administration Program of MTHS. Under the direction of the Administrator, this position is responsible for leading MTHS’s many IT activities. These activities include management of the routine equipment and software needs of MTHS’s six programs and eventual 80+ agency employees, specialized systems such as the variety of multi-media enhancements that will exist in the museum, audio-visual equipment in the new MTHS Event Center, and our future enhanced website and museum management software. Among other tasks, the ability to recommend good IT decisions on behalf of the agency, embrace and have enthusiasm for new MTHS technology, have great time management skills, along with a welcoming and friendly attitude, is important to this position.
Other: The IT Systems Administrator 2 is 40 hour-a-week position, Monday through Friday. The hourly rate of this position will increase by $1.50 per hour starting July 1, 2024, in accordance with HB13.

Responsibilities include:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, network or system technical issues.
- Install or replace network or computer systems hardware or software.
- Schedule or monitor systems maintenance activities.
- Maintain systems backup, recovery, and security protocols.
- Configure hardware or software to meet system requirements.
- Monitor system performance, manage and maintain assigned IT systems.
- Resolve issues elevated from lower-level roles, which involve system modifications.
- Evaluate and optimize network or system performance.
- May perform network or system design, integration, and enhancement planning.

Qualifications:
Two years of education in the field of Information Technology and a minimum of two years of job-related experience in a network or Systems Administrator role. Experience in governmental IT management is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, certification or experience will be considered.
