Health Care Aide (Pt/Ot/Nursing Observation)

This is a unique hands-on opportunity to gain real-life experience assisting someone with a physical disability with various activities including: a workout routine, clerical tasks, and personal care.

• Competitive openings are currently available for motivated students.
• The minimal commitment of 6-10 hours per week, willing to work around the applicants schedule.
• Hands-on opportunities include assisting someone at a commercial gym with gait training, strengthtraining, and manually resisted and assisted exercises, including stretching.

Successful candidates will have an opportunity to work with an adult male with spastic quadriplegia due to Cerebral Palsy. Although his physical abilities are limited, he has a brilliant mind and wicked humor.

He has 14 years of experience working with students (and 33 years of experience with therapists), so the volunteer opportunities he offers to motivated students are "priceless." Long-term committed students can receive letters of recommendation and observation hours for physical/occupational therapy school. Although we can only give hours for PT/OT school, other students in healthcare are welcome to apply for the hands-on experience to build their resume and skills. Also, a letter of recommendation can be written for committed students who volunteer for a minimum of one semester.
