POSITION SUMMARYThe IT Specialist assists with managing the daily operations of the IT department. This position assists with assigned systems, including associated IT equipment, software, and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). The IT Specialist reports to the IT Manager and assists with conducting system administration planning, coordination, modification, implementation and troubleshooting to support employee needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES- Excellent IT, communication, leadership and management skills
- Provide first level IT Support for end-user hardware such as laptops, desktops, phones, printers and other peripherals. Serve as a local specialist on hardware, software, telephony, and security
- Supply first level IT Support for end-user software, including Windows, Microsoft Office and various software applications
- Respond and follow-up on all IT support tickets submitted via phone, email and in person
- Manage daily operations of the IT department
- Assist with the installation of new hardware and software for employees and train as needed
- Maintain all technical, physical, and software access control safeguards
- Assist the IT Manager in the performance of regularly scheduled system management and maintenance procedures
- Responsible for maintaining local servers and workstations: Microsoft Windows updates, user permissions, anti-virus updates, troubleshooting, building new servers, desktops, laptops, tablets and installing third party software
- Uphold Indian Health Service (IHS)security requirements for the Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) and the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Work with the California Area Office IHS to implement the integration of applicable RPMS application programs into existing work patterns
- Resolve complex system issues related to but not limited to RPMS/EHR, Windows products, servers, LANs and other compatible systems
- Knowledge of web design and maintenance as well as encrypted email support
- Keep executive staff and program directors informed of any issues related to telephony and security of data systems in absence of the Site Manager
- Support local and remote users accessing the network via VPN and Remote Desktop
- Recommend and maintain help desk services level agreements
- Identify and document hardware/software recommendations and best practices. Provide onboarding and off boarding of new employees by preparing IT equipment, cellphone’s, creating accounts, provisioning resources and tracking assets
- Collect IT equipment, cellphone’s cancel account access to maintain an accurate assets inventory
- Prepare and lead technical instruction for incoming and exiting staff
- Recognize recurring technical issues, and propose and implement appropriate solutions
- Take a proactive approach to the computing environment by identifying areas for improvement before issues arrive
- Maintain asset inventory and take ownership of tracking IT assets with HR, Facilities and other departments
- Experience in writing policy and procedure – workflows; security manuals; how to’s
- Track record of maintaining IT structural integrity
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
- 2 years of experience serving as an IT Specialist or related position
- Cisco Certified Network Associate preferred
- Additional Industry certifications and memberships
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information adhering to HIPAA, professional codes of conduct, State of CA regulations, Privacy Act, and UAII policies and procedures
- This position has access to sensitive information, and a breach in confidentiality will be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination
- Possess the ability to communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner
- Proficient in English
- Ability to interact with clients/employees in person, on the phone, via email, or online (chat)
- An attention to detail and ability to concentrate in a busy environment
- Ability to prioritize issues and take appropriate steps with minimal supervision
- A patient, friendly, flexible demeanor with the nature to instill calm competence in stressful situations
- Familiarity with desktop/laptop operating systems and software (PC, Windows, Microsoft Office, Mac/Mac OS, etc.)
- Experience in a Windows Active Directory environment
- Experience using and support cloud solutions (Office 365, SharePoint, Google apps, etc.)
- Familiarity with basic networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, etc.)
- Experience with WSUS, imaging tools and unattended installation methods
- Experience supporting IR-based phone systems
- Experience supporting mobile device (Android/iOS)
- Experience providing remote assistance over the phone or via email
- Knowledge of a programming language
- Available and willing to travel as needed
- Available to work evening and weekend hours as needed
- Able to type 40 Words Per Minute
- Ability to fill multiple roles simultaneously
- Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.
- Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638)
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional
