Summary:
The Information and Technology Specialist works under the general direction of the Support Services Administrator. Work performed may include, but not limited to, participation in the planning, design, coordination, support, maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of the City ITS infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.
· Follows organizational strategy for the management of materials, tools and equipment used by the ITS Department.
· Provides direct and indirect customer support for the communications and computer systems used within all city offices and departments.
· Assists with managing the inventory for the ITS Department to ensure adequate bench stocks of materials are on hand and equipment and tools are available when needed.
· Coordinates with private contractors and major utilities providers to ensure adequate infrastructure availability for existing and new structures and oversees work performed by these entities to verify quality of service and compliance with existing codes.
· Assists in the collection, reporting and analysis of statistical information related to service requests and task performance.
· Supports, installs and repairs a variety of complex information technology systems including; desktop computers and peripherals, Voice over Internet Protocol Telephony systems, Fiber Optic Transceivers, Network Switches and other sophisticated communications systems components.
· Ensures continuity of systems and operations by scheduling and performing preventive maintenance as necessary to minimize unscheduled interruptions.
· Prepares and maintains a variety of systems-related information including but not limited to: cable installation records, signal plans, materials inventories, communications schemas and diagrams and management reports.
· Effectively and positively represents the department to others.
· Performs all related responsibilities as required or assigned.
· Drives to work sites within Fort Smith and the surrounding area (a valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required.)
· Regular attendance and timeliness is required
Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience
- Solid understanding of the Windows XP/Vista/7/10 and Windows Server operating systems.
- Solid understanding of local and wide area TCP/IP networking.
- Exposure to and familiarity with Active Directory is a plus.
- Broad knowledge of EIA/TIA and other industry standards regarding infrastructure support.
- Analytical, problem solving skills a plus.
- Highs school diploma or GED is required. Associate's degree and/or certifications in an IT related field a plus.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Work Relationships
This position requires above average interpersonal skills on a daily basis for the many contacts with not only internal City staff but also the general public. Also required is the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.

Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also required. Routinely required to lift up to 40 pounds, and occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds. Must be able to climb a ladder routinely.
Work Environment
Possible exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Works near moving mechanical parts and is at risk of electrical shock and vibration. Sometimes exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud to very loud.
Special Job Dimensions
Required to work evenings, holidays or weekends as needed. Required to work on-call shifts.
Involves contact with hazardous chemicals. May also be required to work in inclement weather and uncomfortable conditions. Applicants must consent to, and pass, an in-depth background check.
