The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer Intern in the Model and Data Development program area. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for Interns who are successful in this position. Ideal candidates must be able to work at least 25 hours a week within the Dallas-Fort Worth region between mid-May and mid-August 2023.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments is currently permitting employees to work a hybrid schedule that consists of working part of each week in the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas, and part of each week remotely from home within the Dallas-Fort Worth Region.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performing data entry, data cleanup, and analysis
- Extracting data from aerial photographs
- Collecting field traffic data
- Coding network data in the traffic simulation model, database, or Geographic Information System software
- Coding signal phases and timing in traffic simulation model
Skills
- Familiarity with traffic simulation software desired
- Knowledge of transportation and traffic engineering, signal analysis desired
- Knowledge of computer programming languages, preferably Python desired
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems
- Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented, organized, creative, and ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Required Experience
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired.
- No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred.
Starting Salary
Minimum of $15.00 per hour

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
