The City of La Crosse intends to hire Student Interns in the Engineering Department. Interns will assist City Engineering and Survey Crews in the survey, construction, mapping, and recording of various Civil Engineering projects. A large portion of the time will be spent in the field assisting in general survey and construction staking, and in the office assisting in the management of map and data files used in archiving city infrastructure. Successful applicants will be exposed to all aspects of the work which occurs in a City Engineering Department. Additional tasks will be assigned based on departmental need and the successful applicants' skills, aptitude, and experience.
Applicants should be in good academic standing majoring in engineering or a related field. Junior or senior standing by the summer of 2024 is preferred. Interest and ambition for a career in engineering, surveying, or GIS is required. Successful applicants will have good computer and interpersonal skills and practical knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office. Additional experience with CAD, GIS, database management, and programming are a plus. Experience which demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail is preferred. Applicants should highlight construction, survey, and field experience in their application.
Average hourly wage for this position is $15.50 but may vary based upon years of education. Work schedule is typically 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. but may vary based on project need. Positions do not acquire benefits.
