Instructor (Professor of Practice) in Computer Science (Non-Tenure Track)
The Avila University College of Arts and Sciences, guided by the mission of excellence in teaching and learning, and dedicated to the service to the Dear Neighbor is actively seeking a full-time Instructor (Professor of Practice) in Computer Science to join our faculty. The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach courses that could include programming languages, databases, visualization, cybersecurity, and/or machine learning. This is an academic, 10-month, non-tenure track appointment, eligible for annual renewal based on performance. The appointment will begin in August 2024.
Responsibilities:
- Teach an equivalent to 15 credit hours per semester (5:5 load for Fall:Spring semesters).
- Teach introductory and advanced concepts in Computer Science. Lectures and course work would include, but not limited to, programming languages, databases, security, visualization, quantum computing, and/or cybersecurity with an emphasis on regulatory compliance.
- Provide instruction, activities, assignments, assessments, and feedback to adequately cover all objectives for the specific course(s) taught and the overall Computer Science curriculum.
- Deliver content using effectual methods which are appropriate to students with differing abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experience.
- Champion diversity, build an inclusive culture and learning experience, and maintain an equitable learning environment.
- If desired, participate in service efforts in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and the College of Arts & Sciences.

Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, or a closely related discipline, completed by the date of appointment. Degrees in related disciplines can be considered if 18 credit hours of Computer Science discipline graduate coursework from an accredited university/college is attained.
- Experience teaching college level Computer Science courses (experience can include graduate teaching assistantships).
- Successful candidates should showcase their work and experience in contributing to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is preferred.
- Doctoral candidates with All but Dissertation (ABD) status would be given full consideration if 18 credit hours of discipline graduate coursework from an accredited university/college is attained.
- Post-doctoral or industrial experience, especially in cybersecurity is preferred.
- Multilingual skills highly preferred.
