Dental Assisting Instructor

Certification: 6,000 hours of direct occupational experience within the most recent ten years (a Baccalaureate Degree or Associates Degree from an accredited institution within the major being taught may be considered as meeting one year (2,000 hours) of the employment requirements.) Dental Assistant or Dental Hygiene Certification required, Dental Hygiene Certification preferred
Duties: The Dental Assisting instructor is responsible for teaching competencies common to the Dental Assisting profession. In addition, the instructor must coordinate the following activities:
1. Maintain good public relations within the community.
2. Maintain an active advisory committee.
3. Provide adequate “live” projects for students.
4. Work as a team member within the L & C environment.
5. Maintain accounts for outside projects.
6. Maintain Dental Assisting or Dental Hygiene certification.
7. Control tools and supply inventories.
8. Motivate and maintain a positive learning environment.
9. Attend seminars and take course work necessary to maintain a valid vocational teaching certificate.
10. Utilize existing curriculum and develop new ones as the industry changes.
Professional: After initial certification, 20 semester hours of professional training will be required to maintain a career and technical education certification from the State Department of Education.
Reports to: Vocational Director
Terms of employment: Full-time position; Salary commensurate with education and experience
