The Robertson Media Center Team at the University of Virginia Library seeks a motivated and skilled Graduate Student Worker to support our library's instruction in the Robertson Media Center. Our mission is to assist in the creation of media projects by making the needed equipment accessible, as well as by offering one on one consultations to help troubleshoot, guide, and teach patrons general and specialized techniques to complete their individual projects. We are seeking a student with teaching experience and expertise in audiovisual technologies to provide workshops, classes, tours, and orientations through the Spring of 2024. Qualified students will possess knowledge of Audacity, iMovie or equivalent, as well as attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to work independently. This role is an excellent opportunity for graduate students looking to apply their instructional and technical skills in a dynamic academic library setting and gain valuable teaching experience.
The position is for 5 hours a week.
Position Compensation: $23.00 hourly
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide tours and orientations to academic classes and organizations interested in the Robertson Media Center, and the equipment, studios, software and services it provides.
- Provide instruction to courses on the RMC technologies, including basic audio and/or video production and editing for class assignments like beginner podcasts, video essays, etc. Depending on skillset, this could include other RMC equipment, software and media studios, 3D printing, etc.
- Assist library patrons with the use of creative technology, multimedia project creation and software, including with regular office hours and/or 'lab' hours.
- Support the development of online tutorials and guides related to creative and emerging technologies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree; must be enrolled as a graduate student.
Technology Expertise: Experience with Audacity and iMovie or equivalent software is required; experience with Garage Band, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, or similar media software is preferred, but not required. Experience with 3D printing, cameras, and audio recording equipment is a plus, but not required.
Teaching Experience: At least one year providing technical teaching, tutoring, or other instruction. Previous experience teaching technology is preferred.
Other Qualifications: Willingness to learn and teach new skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for teaching and helping others. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This job requires the ability to provide in-class instruction and individual consultation in a classroom and computer lab environment, often with presentation slides.
