Role Summary
The Instructional Designer, Learning & Development role is primarily accountable for the design of program content within the leadership development framework and its programs, a critical component in executing the long-term learning. The Instructional Designer, Learning & Development works across Divisions and Groups to support L&D programs, contributing directly to Magna's business and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Program Design:
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and L&D Management Team to create practical and engaging learning content to meet the priorities of the business, with a focus on leadership development programs for all levels of leadership.
- Develop learning content using a blended approach, up to date learning technology and multimedia tools (ex. Content authoring tools, virtual classroom, simulations, adaptive learning tools, audio, video, and graphics, etc.)
- Conduct needs analysis with Leaders throughout the organization to identify skill and competency requirements, gaps/opportunities, and business priorities and recommend learning strategies to meet their learning objectives.
- Create Facilitator and Participant materials for new and existing courses (ex. Facilitator guides, workbooks, job aids, PowerPoint slide decks).
- Design and implement strategies to evaluate training programs at all levels of the Kirkpatrick Model and implement globally across all programs.
- Collaborate with Program Managers and L&D Specialists to analyze evaluation results and implement program enhancements on an on-going basis.
- Work with L&D Specialists to support regional program customizations and translations and contribute to global version control of course materials.
- Stay up-to-date and share knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in instructional design and elearning and apply this knowledge to enhance training programs.
Vendor Management:
- Collaborate with external partners to deliver quality content and programs that align to program learning objectives, and overall L&D strategy.
- Work with external eLearning providers to curate content to compliment learning programs.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Adult Education, or related discipline
- 5 years+ experience in an instructional design role, with a focus on leadership development and business topics.
- Expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design process, learning evaluation and methods for measuring learning outcomes.
- Expertise in content authoring, video creation and graphics software (ex. Articulate 360, video creation/editing tools, Adobe Captivate and other graphic design tools)
- Experience working in complex de-centralized or matrix, multinational organizations is an asset.
- Experience in the automotive industry or manufacturing sector is an asset.
Skills/Competencies:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 360 applications
- Experience in HTML coding language is an asset
- "Hands-on" approach to working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to translate broad or complex concepts into simple, practical terms for all types of audiences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work through ambiguity and uncertainty to achieve objectives.

- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
