Discovery Education is looking for an Intern to join our Instructional Design team. This is an onsite role at our Corporate Headquarters in Charlotte, NC and you will work on a hybrid schedule.The B.O.L.D. (Building Opportunities for Leadership & Development) paid internship program lasts eight weeks from June 20, 2023 – August 11, 2023.
You will be required to work a 40-hour work week.Throughout the 8-week internship program, you will complete important and meaningful work and project assignments with a focus on providing you opportunities for growth, visibility, and exposure within the organization. You will be paired with a Mentor that will be your guide for the projects and work assignments.What You Will DoDesign, revise, and enhance Ready-to-Use lessons and activities for Back-to-School and the 2023 – 2024 school year. Research effective instructional strategies to expand and support our current Lesson Library. Explore opportunities to extend our instructional support to elementary and middle school teachers and present a recommendation to the team.Help create instructional resources for teachers across multiple grade bands and subject areas.Develop scope of work for revision or creation of specific instructional activities (e.g., number of activities, time to create or revise each activity, total time for project completion). Project management including communication with the team to share project status, opportunities, and roadblocks. Participate and schedule ad hoc and team meetings that support your projects.What you can expect from usDeep experience in how an ed-tech company approaches the Instructional Design process from establishing an instructional challenge statement and working it through to a live "resource" within the DE platform. The opportunity to work across the company and learn how the product development team interacts with and relies on other teams in the organization. Opportunities to connect to classroom practitioners (i.e., teachers, instructional coaches) to gain insights into their instructional needs and challenges. A very tangible benefit of working as an intern on this team is that their =work will result in published resources within our platform that teachers will use with students.RequirementsExperience working with children/young adults in a teaching and learning setting (substitute teaching, tutoring, volunteer program, summer camp counselor, preservice teaching). Pursuing a degree in Education (any field) or a related field. Strong time management skills, self-discipline, problem solving and versatility. Excellent written and oral communication as well as strong interpersonal skills. Driven self-starter able to execute without micro-management. Easily able to proactively manage/prioritize multiple projects, task and deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented approach.
