General Summary
Under general supervision of a certified teacher, works with one student or a small group of disabled students in an effort to provide physical help and emotional support that students need to benefit from Special Education programs. Assists the teacher with various classroom and community activities.
Essential Functions
Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
Assists teacher with primary academic instruction and classroom activities; prepares and disseminates materials for classroom activities.
Listens to students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks.
Assists teacher in instruction of daily living routines and career preparation.
Works with students on school campus work skills.
Assists in the activities associated with school based enterprises.
Assists teacher in taking students in and out of the school building.
Performs simple errands and tasks for students as directed by teacher.
Provides for basic first aid needs of students.
Supervises students on work site as directed by teacher.
Assists with student records and student portfolios as directed by teacher.
Maintains student attendance records.
Monitors and inspects students' prosthesis, casts, and braces for proper functioning.
Assists in basic computer instruction.
Maintains the confidentiality of personally identifiable data on students.
Drives bus to work sites as directed by teacher.
Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
- Two (2) year degree or sixty (60) hours of credit from an accredited institution or a passing score on a Para Pro exam; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- ?Valid CDL drivers license
Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.
Working Conditions
Duties are performed in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires ability to perform duties requiring constant attention and working with disabled children. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting/moving of children to/from wheelchairs and items up to twenty-five pounds. Travel is required with school bus transportation.
Responsibility
Responsible for the supervision of students. No direct budgetary responsibility.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
