Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for an Instructional & Classroom Support Technician 2. The Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 position supports the Allied Health & Radiologic Science programs. This is a cyclic (10 months/year), 40 hours per week, full-time, classified position.
Leave Without Pay (LWOP) occurs July-August of each year. Beginning salary is $3700 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $4968 plus a full state benefits package. This position is contingent upon grant funding.
Reporting to the Program Manager - Workforce Education, the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2 will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Allied Health and Radiologic Science Programs. Under general supervision, the successful incumbent will work in collaboration with college department faculty, administrators and staff members; and perform work that requires knowledge of lab procedures, materials, equipment and other duties as assigned. Duties are performed in an office and lab/clinic environment. Some lifting (up to 50lbs.) will be required.
Essential Tasks
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree plus Medical Assistant Certified (MA-C) or graduate of a CAAHEP/ABHES accredited Medical Assisting Program
OR
  • Equivalent education and/or experience e.g. (MA-C, plus 1 year of professional work experience in the medical field, plus additional work experience outside of the area of expertise)
AND
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certified or able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office technology and software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)

  • Bilingual/Biliterate: English/Spanish
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and the public in an efficient and effective manner.

JOB PROFILE:
Typical Office Work:
  • Research, evaluate and make purchasing recommendations/decisions/provide quotes in collaboration with faculty and program coordinator for program supplies.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the public, students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Represent assigned program(s) accurately and positively to all constituents.
  • Maintain inventory lists and other documents as needed for lab support.

Program Specialization:
  • Operate open labs for Allied Health and Radiologic Sciences
  • Will assist with lab skills practice in Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting labs.
  • Facilitate clean and safe clinic and lab spaces.
  • Liaison with various technology support services and vendors to ensure optimal and continuous functioning of laboratory equipment, technology, and software.
  • Coordinate disposal of sharps and hazardous wastes.
  • Complete: set up/close down, operation, and maintenance of all associated equipment and chemicals.
  • Check out instruments and supplies as instructed.
  • Monitor, launder, stock, and replace (as needed) all personal protective equipment.
  • Perform professional/technical instructional support involving the use of technical, and/or academic knowledge, materials, and techniques.
  • Demonstrate use and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and solutions for lab.
  • Prepare demonstrations as requested by instructors.
  • Modify laboratory protocols; advises instructors of potential problems with existing programs.
  • Operate and perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory, and demonstration instruments and equipment; instructs students, teaching assistants and faculty in the use of equipment.
  • Assist in the development of safe laboratory procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed.
  • Follow through with submitting documentation for purchasing department supplies and maintains adequate stock levels.
  • Assemble, organize, and interpret data.
  • Work closely with program faculty to support designated programs and the institution.
  • May work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • May support other Professional Technical programs as other duties assigned.
