The Director of Student Affairs is responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of Student life, support, and development. This position plays a crucial role, partnering closely with the Associate Dean for Students, in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for medical students.
Duties include:
- Provide direct support to the Associate Dean for Students in conducting data analyses, supporting and leading committee meetings, policy development, and completing annual reports and surveys.
- Provide 1:1 case management (and/or general oversight) for students navigating through modified curriculum plans and various support entities. Ensure confidentiality of Student data. Monitor shared email inbox to ensure that requests are being promptly and appropriately handled and to identify student concerns or situations.
- Provide oversight and advisement the MD Program elected Student Leadership, overseeing class leadership and other committee student elections, and all recognized student organizations.
- Responsible for budgetary oversight of Student affairs related programing and activities.
- Collaborate in the enhancement and implementation of Student coaching and career advising activities, as part of the overarching student experience.
- Create innovative proactive strategies, solutions, programs and policies based on student needs. Proactively identify individual student and system challenges before they occur.
- Systematize medical school practices and infrastructure to work collaboratively on behalf of the students, and within compliance of policies and governing entities.
- Support the needs of healthcare workforce pathway programs, ensuring equity and compliance in standardized competencies.
- Create enhancements within the Medical Student Match Protocol, supporting the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean's Letter), the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), Military Match, and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for medical students.
- Lead core multidisciplinary staff of 12 FTE technical and administrative professionals who are organized into two functional units to provide essential services to students and faculty. Individual offices reporting to the Director of Student Affairs include Student Development Office and Education Workforce Programs and Innovation Unit.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's in higher education, counseling, student affairs, a related field, or 5+ years of leadership experience.
- Supervisory experience to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance.
- Experience developing and implementing large scale programs and in an academic setting.
- Experience and skills interpreting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Experience in the use of but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and other web-based tools.
- Demonstrated skills to manage complex systemic activities.
- Skills to manage complex processes and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge in the field(s) of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging, particularly, in relation to groups in an academic health center environment (faculty, residents, medical students, and pre-medical students) as well as local diverse communities.
- Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals at all levels within the organization to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and to foster and promote the goals of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or doctoral degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, a related field or 10+ years of leadership experience.
- Several years of experience in medical school or higher education, preferably in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of medical education, accreditation standards, and healthcare trends.
- Assessment skills to learn complex School of Medicine and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) student affairs practices, processes, and procedures.
Department Description
The mission of the Office of Medical Education (OME) is to provide excellent support for School of Medicine learning programs through the delivery of centralized expertise, services and instructional resources for faculty and trainees (medical students, residents, and fellows). OME is an interdisciplinary team which provides a variety of services directly to faculty and trainees, including: onboarding, instructional materials, financial aid, counseling, tutoring and support for special programs. OME staff offer support for various School of Medicine and Health System committees, including the Committee on Student Promotions, the Committee on Educational Policy, the Admissions Committee, and the Learning Climate Committee. Finally, OME sponsors a number of special programs in support of the academic mission and is able to assist administratively with those groups.
