Information Technology Specialist

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to provide technical support required to (1) maintain systems, evaluate problems and take corrective action; and (2) perform analysis of routine applications of Information Technology. You qualify for this position at the GS-11 level (starting salary $75,833) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-09) in the Federal Service.  This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience.  Specialized experience for this position includes:

• Providing the technical support required to maintain systems, evaluate problems and take corrective action.
• Performing analysis of routine applications of Information Technology (hardware and software),and implementation of information systems to meet organizational requirements.
• Planning and delivery of technical support services, including troubleshooting, installation, removal, moves, systems knowledge assistance and/or training in response to customer requirements.

OR

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or 

LL.M.

OR

Combination of education and experience

You qualify for this position at the GS-12 level (starting salary $90,893) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) in the Federal Service.  This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience.  Specialized experience for this position includes:

• Implementing and supporting virtual server and virtual desktop environments.
• Providing server technical support including cyber security for LAN and support systems.
• Implementing, planning, and evaluating studies to develop long-range IT solutions.
• Developing and interpreting Information Technology policies, procedures and utilizing the System Change Request process system.

In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below, equivalent to the GS-11 and GS-12 level: 

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
