Position Summary: The Infection Preventions (IP) is responsible for all aspects (planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating) of the facility’s Infection Control Program. The IP must take all necessary steps to prevent and control the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents in the patient, staff, and visitor populations, and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections;
educating employees about infection control; and developing standards that meet all local, state and federal regulatory and accrediting bodies guidelines (CDC,OSHA, and APIC).
Qualifications:
- Current California license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), in good standing
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities and infection control practices, including standard/universal precautions and guidelines for antibiotic stewardship.
- Ability to gather information, document, and report findings
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to train others with patience and kindness
- Computer skills-including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and PCC experience preferred.
- APIC Certification in infection control preferred, but not necessary.

Responsibilities:
- Monitors Public Health Advisories from local, state, and federal agencies including the
- CDC to remain current on trends, methodologies and other health practices for patients and employees, and timely updates policies and communicate changes on any of the above areas
- Serves as the on-site IPC for COVID-19 prevention and response activities
- Performs other work within the scope of their license
- Understands Infection Prevention practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing functions in skilled nursing and/or post-acute facilities
- Interprets the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Infection Prevention and Control Program and implements trainings and systems to ensure compliance.
