The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to fill an Industries Manager 3 - Engineering Manager vacancy at Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, WA. This position typically works from 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.

Duties
This position supports DOC's objectives to improve public safety by directing, training and managing incarcerated workers in the development and design of quality, cost-efficient furniture, which is sold to government agencies and non-profit organizations. The Engineering Manager ensures security and control for staff and incarcerated assigned in the furniture factory and warehouse as well as the job skills training provided to incarcerated workers in accordance with CI legislative mandates.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Directs the procurement activities to ensure inventory levels are sufficient to support CI-SCCC furniture manufacturing objectives as driven by customer demand.
  • Manages Vendor relations through implementing "Best Buy" practices to ensure raw materials and consumable cost are kept at the lowest possible price.
  • Develops or implements policies, standards, or procedures for engineering and technical work.
  • Provides daily supervision of incarcerated workers assigned to the business office, and more specifically to the engineering/design department.
  • Directs, reviews, or approves project design changes.
  • Prepares unit cost statements for new and existing products.
  • Confers with management, production, or account executive to discuss project specifications or procedures.
  • Consults or negotiates with account executive to prepare project specifications.
  • Plans, directs, approves and coordinates the work flow of Bill of Materials, Shop Drawings and product Design.
  • Communicates with supervisors, peers, or subordinates - Provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Evaluates information to determine compliance with standards using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Ensures control and security of incarcerated workers in accordance to DOC Policy.
  • Provides inventory oversight to ensure appropriate levels of materials for production, where inventory is in the production process, and monthly reporting of inventory levels.
  • Acts as Engineering Manager for SCCC Furniture Factory.
  • May prepare and submit drawings, cost estimates and designs for customer and account executive/brand manager review.
  • May serve as the backup to the Operations Manager in times of absence.

Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Four (4) years experience in furniture manufacturing or related field.
  • A college degree in Computer aided design CAD software or two (2) years professional experience using Computer aided design (CAD) software.
  • Two (2) years experience in creating detailed bill of materials, drawings, product specifications, cut lists, and CNC details.
Preferred/Desired:
  • High level of organizational skills, required to prioritize projects, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Bachelors degree or higher in industrial design, manufacturing engineering, or apprenticeship in cabinet making or closely related field.
  • 2 years of Supervisor experience.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.
  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
  • Become familiar and comply with all DOC policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Submit to drug testing in accordance with with CBA and agency policy.
  • This position may be included in a union shop.
  • May have to pass pre-employment UA test.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
