Job Description:
The OIE Program Coordinator works closely with and answers directly to the Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence on all issues related to equal opportunity, access, retention, climate and successful experience within the LSU Vet Med community.
Job Responsibilities:
30% - Under the guidance of the Associate Dean, develop and implement short-term and long-range Inclusive Excellence (IE) programming, including the assessment of such programs and services. Develop and implement IE initiatives that increase the support, retention, matriculation, and graduation of DVM and graduate students at LSU Vet Med, especially those from under-represented and underserved populations.
20% - Create and implement educational programming opportunities for students, faculty and staff training and communication strategies for trainings, web resources (internal and external audiences), and distribution of materials to support Inclusive Excellence amongst various populations. Establish and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with key leaders throughout the community to foster mentoring relationships with students and collaborative relationships with faculty and staff.
15% - Utilize assessment data to drive decisions impacting the university, including faculty and student recruitment, development, engagement, and retention. Serve as a liaison with other Schools, Departments, and professional units, to create strategies to support recruitment and retention efforts for employee and student diversity.
10% - Support leadership/professional development through various education programs and events. Serve as a first point of contact for student, faculty, and staff grievances regarding discrimination counseling.
10% - Work directly with search committees to ensure best practices are followed in sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and orientating new team members.
10% - Compile annual diversity report card by collecting data to assess institutional effectiveness at achieving diverse and inclusive environment. Promote anti-discrimination philosophy while educating the school about the effects of various forms of discrimination.
5% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience.
Special and Physical Qualifications:
Cash Handling - This position has access to/directly handles cash. Financial history/credit check required per FASOP HR-04
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
Required to be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching above the shoulder, and reaching below the shoulder.
