Job description

At Freddie Mac, you will do important work to build a better housing finance system and you'll be part of a team helping to make homeownership and rental housing more accessible and affordable across the nation.
Position Overview:
This is a dual-hatted senior leadership role based in New York, reporting directly to the Business Technology Officer (BTO) & Head of Technology within Freddie Mac's Investments & Capital Markets Division:

  • As the Head of BTO Strategic Initiatives and Transformation Office, you will be responsible for building a team of senior Program Managers who will lead Strategic Initiatives across the I&CM BTO, in areas such as Enterprise Forecasting and Front-Office Trading & Risk Management.
  • As the Chief Product Owner in a program that forecasts every aspect of one of the world's largest balance sheets, you will make key decisions that guide development, governance, modeling and finance teams to continuously improve this core capability. In addition, you will build a team of senior Program Managers who will cover Strategic Initiatives across the Investment & Capital Markets Division's portfolio of Technology Investments.

Our Impact:
  • The Investments & Capital Markets is responsible for executing liquidity, financing, credit risk transfer, and derivative transactions as well as managing Freddie Mac's portfolio of single-family securities and loan investments in the retained portfolio. We also lead certain enterprise-level functions related to financial/capital/risk forecasting (Mercury+), model governance, payments, counterparty risk and third-party risk.
  • Our Enterprise Forecasting Team is the responsible for the development of a forecasting engine that forecasts every loan, security, and significant accounting event for the firm, as well forecasts of our risk and capital. This shared service supports nearly every risk decision in the firm, including automated underwriting, distressed loan decisioning, the profitability and risk of capital market decisions, the evaluation of credit and counterparty risks, related accounting disclosures, and capital strategy

Your Impact:
As head of the I&CM BTO Strategic Initiatives & Transformation Office, you will lead a team of high-performing Program Managers to drive execution by facilitating transparency and governance of our portfolio of strategic investments.
As Enterprise Forecasting Product Owner, you will also be at the center of a program that is both broad in scope and yet very detailed. This program is critical for annual DFAST executions, strategic planning, capital forecasting, balance sheet management, and internal and external reporting. In this role, you will be expected to:
  • Be highly credible as someone who understands our financials and our forecasting abilities at a detailed level, and can make responsible strategic decisions about the future direction of the program
  • Be focused on the well-being of the program and leading it in a positive direction, through highly effective communication and demonstrated credibility
  • Work constructively with those doing systems development, while understanding the impact of technology decisions, and making informed decisions on trade offs
  • Work effectively with peer teams who are developing their respective products
  • Have model intuition, especially as it relates to how models and model changes would affect the outcome of the forecast
  • Effectively manage stakeholders, solicit and challenge requirements, and partner with other areas to create an effective organization and culture around forecasting
  • Coach employees on risk management activities and sound development practices
  • Present to management on the program status and strategy, as well as issues and opportunities

Qualifications:
  • 12+ Years of related Financial Services Experience
  • Experience running large-scale Transformation initiatives
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of financial forecasting, especially in mortgage finance. GSE experience advantageous, although not required.
  • Advanced knowledge of fixed income models used to generate financial forecasts
  • Expert discernment regarding cost / benefit analysis in determining remediation plans and agreed upon action plans
  • Expert communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to coordinate and lead a team, both as a direct leader as well as across functions
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, such as Scrum
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and communicate trade offs regarding a program's direction
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and industry best practices
  • Ability to facilitate innovative thinking to solve problems and make decisions
  • CPA/CFA/FRM certification preferred

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $242,000 - $364,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
