Position Summary:

Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, and repair of mechanical HVAC equipment and perform all other related work as required. This position is required to maintain, troubleshoot, repair/or replace equipment as needed. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time and materials for HVAC projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an HVAC shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. SOME POSITIONS MAY REQUIRE SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREA RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Must have a valid NC driver’s license.

Key Responsibility:

Acts as HVAC Technician for maintenance staff in area or zone

Essential Tasks:

  • Uses knowledge, equipment, and tools to repair student issues and utility maintenance needs.
  • Respond to recurring and non-recurring work requests assigned through the CMMS system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and overhaul on the most complex mechanical systems and equipment using advanced skills with in-depth analysis.
  • Provide technical assistance by troubleshooting systems to determine a cause.
  • Set objectives and clearly prioritize work requests to take advantage of resources.
  • Anticipate obstacles and prepare alternative plans to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Identify critical and less critical facilities maintenance-related issues that require in-depth analysis and identify options for resolution.
  • Serve as a technical expert within the shops.
  • Proactively pursue facilities-related maintenance issues and recognizes inherent problems with procedures and practices and make suggestions for improvement.
