Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent staffs anonymous and confidential testing sites and acts as primary counselor and driver at mobile unit outreach test site.  He/she performs HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and Hepatitis testing.  He/she ensures the proper number of supplies, medical equipment, forms, testing kits, and incentives needed are in place for the activities.  He/she assures that the paperwork is completed, and the specimens match the paperwork criteria.  Is responsible to provide paperwork to Senior clerk to be entered in the system and will provide the final product to the lab.  He/she will serve as the liaison person between the lab and the program in matters of correcting or clarifying information.

The incumbent assists the clients to understand the meaning of HIV testing, contact notification, risk reduction messages, and encourages testing in outreach, at home or jail setting.

The incumbent works within the community to expand the education and testing program to target populations for HIV/AIDS.  He/she works closely with various community organizations/schools to help increase HIV awareness thru presentations, health fairs, or other events per supervisor approval.  The incumbent will work closely with the outreach coordinator to staff direct outreach activities throughout the community.  This may include, but is not limited to, distributing condoms, and visiting local businesses for the purpose of making literature and condoms available to the local community.  He/she will assist with clarification, resources development, and advertising of special events which will include National Testing Day, National Latino Awareness Day, World AIDS Day, Black Awareness Day, and National Girl and Women Awareness Day.  The incumbent networks with existing indigenous organizations to provide a comprehensive and culturally sensitive outreach programs within specific cultural/ethnic minority populations where HIV has taken a disproportionate toll on the community. Attends community meetings addressing HIV/AIDS issues as assigned.

Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of HIV/AIDS and community resources through regular staff meetings, continuing education, reading, workshops/seminars as needed and available, etc.  Assist in producing educational materials/flyers/presentations, etc. 

Prepares and submits on time, all reports, documents, and statistics as required by the program.  Maintains knowledge and skills in driving the Health Coaches to various outreach activities as needed. Consults with and solicits community agencies, the private sector and community service organizations to assist with program development, expansion, and improvement through their involvement.

Performs other related duties as needed.

All information held in health department records is confidential with access governed by state and federal laws.  Confidential information includes the client's name, address, medical, social, and financial data, and services received.  Sexually transmitted disease should afford client's privacy, confidentiality, and dignity.
