The Farmworker Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD), is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. FIELD was founded in 1978 by Farmworker Leader Cesar E. Chavez and is dedicated to strengthening America's agricultural and rural communities through our Core Values of Opportunity, Excellence, Integrity, Innovation and Si Se Puede. FIELD carries out its mission through a continuum of educational and workforce development programs that assist underserved communities in achieving empowerment, self-sufficiency, and a better quality of life. FIELD has realigned our training and education to promote career pathways for adult learners. This includes work experience opportunities in Environmental Conservation, Energy, Education, Entrepreneurship and Civic Action.

SUMMARY
The Human Resource Generalist at FIELD is instrumental in maintaining a compliant and productive workplace aligned with the organization's mission and values. This role involves fostering a positive culture, managing recruitment, coordinating payroll and benefits, administering compensation systems, and handling various HR-related responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES includes, but not limited to the following. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Foster a positive culture and climate in line with FIELD's mission and values.
  • Support recruitment and hiring processes.
  • Participate in the administration of compensation, benefits,
  • Assist in addressing employee relations issues, investigations, and related documentation.
  • Provide basic information to employees about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, and opportunities for promotion.
  • Support in updating job requirements and descriptions for all positions.
  • Assist with onboarding, performance reviews, review of separation documents, and exit interviews.
  • Support the maintenance of human resource records, ensuring compliance with state/federal regulations and FIELD policies.
  • Participate in workers' compensation claims and documentation.
  • Assist in research and data gathering for reports and projects.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating HR and Company events.
  • Engage in communication and interaction with external resources as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
  • Attend job fairs as needed.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment/labor laws and regulations, and recommend best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. Ensure employer labor law posters are distributed at all FIELD locations.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to managers with employee concerns.
  • Ensures job descriptions are current including conducting job analysis and creating new job descriptions.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees, relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.
  • Conducts HR audits as assigned.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks (live scan) and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Supports with New Hire Orientation.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date HR files, records, and documentation.
  • Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Supports Human Resources Director with various projects and initiatives.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • At least two (2) years HR experience required.
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required. In lieu of degree minimum five (5) years in HR experience.
  • Masters degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Basic interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in spreadsheet and Excel.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute with high energy and creativity.
  • Ability to work independently while obtaining input and direction as needed.

Other Requirements:
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Proof of automobile insurance coverage.
  • Valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance.

Working Conditions: Environment:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
