Opportunity for a Seasoned HR Manager to Own HR at an Important Site & Influence Diverse Areas. Ideal role for a strong change manager with exceptional site leadership & labor relations skills to make an impact & shine.


The Role

If you are a skilled HR professional who combines strong leadership skills with proven change management ability and the tenacity to manage the HR services function supporting an organization of salaried, hourly and union employees, this is your opportunity to drive positive change in a highly visible role.   • You will "own" Human Resources at the site, identifying opportunities for improvements, driving change and implementing key initiatives.

  • - someone who has the vision to see what could be and the tactical skills to make it happen. You'll make an impact as you put new systems in place, take on projects and corporate initiatives, influence and coach leaders, own labor and employee relations and much more.
  • You'll act as a true partner to diverse business operations and 200 employees, from operators to technicians to site leaders.


Reporting to the Refining & Logistics HR Director, you will supervise one HR team member to provide onsite HR professional support to 200+ union and non-union employees. You will assume responsibility for all Human Resources activities and programs for the site, supporting a variety of functional areas, including Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Commercial, and more.


Your key objectives will include:

    • Driving cultural integration by implementing policies & procedures, new initiatives, such as a performance management plan, coaching and mentoring leaders, building relationships with employees and more.
    • Ensuring alignment of HR initiatives with corporate objectives as well as with local business objectives.
    • Partnering with leadership in fostering and sustaining a high-performance work culture with an outstanding safety record.
    • Executing key strategies, programs and activities in all areas of HR across the site.


More specifically, you will:

    • Support the managers with union-represented employees with contractual issues, grievances, arbitration and negotiations.
    • Develop programs and activities that enhance employee engagement and maximize productivity.
    • Provide information, advice and assistance to leadership regarding the application of policies, procedures and relevant regulations.
    • Manage employee relations issues, including conducting investigations and leading parties to mutually acceptable resolution.
    • Oversee recruitment and onboarding activities.
    • Administer compensation and benefits and make recommendations for change or improvement.

The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Human Resources Manager - Labor Relations opportunity, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business administration, or related field prefered.
  • Professional certification(s) (SPHR or SHRM-SCP) is a plus
  • 5-7 years of experience in a site management HR role with supervisory experience
  • Solid and broad Human Resources experience required with particular expertise in:
    • Labor relations, including arbitration and grievances
    • Employee relations to include conducting effective workplace investigations
    • HR policies, procedures and systems
    • Performance management
    • Leave administration
    • Payroll administration
    • Compensation & benefits
    • Project management skills
    • Developing and conducting robust employee/manager training
    • HR compliance and employment law
    • Change management
  • Proven success influencing and coaching site leaders and exercising conflict management tactics
  • Strong business savvy and the ability to influence the decision-making process
  • The ability to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly and professionally
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with enterprise HRIS applications (experience with SAP SuccessFactors or Ceridian is a plus)
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry or a heavy industrial / manufacturing environment
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel to Corporate and other locations as required for training or meetings

Pay Range:

$107,894 – 188,142 per year

Other Compensation:
Employee is eligible for an annual incentive program targeted as 15-20% of annual pay based upon both company financial performance and individual performance to goals.
