The Human Resources Intern position is ideal for a current student or recent graduate looking to gain valuable real-world experience in the field of HR. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills they may have acquired in school related to their areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. They will gain a better understanding of the various roles that HR can play within an organization and be better prepared to work in the arena of Human Resources, risk mitigation, and the public sector. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with the operations, finance, engineering, and administration staff.
The Human Resources Intern will learn the practical application of:
Talent Planning and Acquisition:
- Learn and assist in the talent acquisition lifecycle.
- Assist with processing new hire documentation.
Learning and Development:
- Assist in performance of assessment to determine the training needs of personnel.
- Contribute in consultation to managers and employees on professional growth and development opportunities.
- Coordinate training with the leadership team
Benefits and Compensation:
- Assist in Coordinating and scheduling open enrollment informational sessions.
- Participate in open enrollment event by assisting employees with benefits selections.
- Research industry trends and internal trends for Personnel Committee presentation
Risk Management:
- Learn and assist with workers' compensation and incident management.
- Assist with safety and emergency preparedness training.
Business Acumen:
- Maintain and organize company records and reports.
- Market HR internally and externally
- Learn some aspects of budgeting.
Qualifications:
- Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, Risk Management, Business Administration, or nonprofit management/administrative fields;
- Passionate about pursuing a career in Human Resources
- Exhibit a high degree of integrity and ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
- A self-starter who is accountable and able to effectively work in both an office and remote team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Duration of HR Internship: 10 to 12 weeks
