JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Intern will support the HR department in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused HR service. The responsibilities will include providing effective and timely support to employees across the broader organization and taking ownership of day-to-day administrative tasks while remaining flexible and responsive to additional requests. The intern will learn multiple skills by working in numerous HR functionalities.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Assist in updating internal employee databases, data entry, screening resumes, and conducting initial screening calls.
- Set up interviews and carry out the on-boarding process.
- Assist in developing safety training by creating modules in Company’s management learning system.
- Assist in conducting a job safety hazard analysis.
- Assist with drafting Total Reward Reports for employees.
- Assist in organizing company events (Company picnic, TTT meeting and golf outing) to increase morale.
- Work with HR director to coordinate activities calendar for other summer interns to include participation in a community event representing Merrill Manufacturing.
- Assist with recognition platform, assessing and evaluating program performance and effectiveness and offer suggestions if needed.
- Assist with company communication including newsletter and bulletin boards to foster collaboration and communication between teams.
- Work closely with the Human Resources Director to plan out new activities that align to company core values and mission.
- Work with supervisor to analyze training needs and come up with solutions to meet those needs. Implement training if needed.
- Office management tasks: sorting employee files, payroll data, and other HR intern duties.
- Assist in conducting employee files audit to ensure compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Must be a junior or higher pursuing a bachelors in HR or studying a degree related to people from a four-year college or university.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
Experience in HRM or a previous HR intern job. Experience working in a fast-paced environment, multi-tasking, and delivering deadlines.
Ability to work independently.
Should be skilled with HR software, such as MS Office, database systems, HRIS, and ATS.
Understanding of job boards, updating job descriptions, contact details, and other employee information.
Strong work ethic.
Basic understanding of occupational safety and health, Anti-discrimination law, National Labor Relations Act labor legislation.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of data and act with integrity.
