Job Description
Dykema, a leading national law firm, is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidate is a passionate and energetic self-starter who will serve as a trusted advisor to department leaders and employees, in the areas of recruitment, on-boarding, employee relations, performance management, and HR data reporting. The HRBP will also provide dedicated support related to the firm’s diversity, equity and inclusive initiatives. This position will be based in Michigan but will provide firm-wide Human Resources services, working with individuals and teams in Dykema offices across the country.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruiting/ On-boarding
- Recruiting, screening, and engaging the best applicants for administrative positions;
- Confirming recruiting strategy with HR Director and department leaders, coordinating offer approval, coaching managers on recruiting process and vendor management to facilitate the hiring of qualified applicants;
- Recruiting for temporary staff, seasonal employees and student intern programs; assisting with intern program oversight, employee performance and expense monitoring;
- Supporting hiring processes, including internal and external posting of positions, communication with candidates, working with reference checks, background checks, and credential verification;
- Assisting with on-boarding and new hire orientation, including preparing and updating materials, inputting required HR documents, and coordinating new hire training schedules;
- Assisting with selection and review of pre-placement tests to ensure assessment materials/procedures are consistent with current trends.
Employee Relations/Performance Management
- Guiding department leaders with performance management, talent management, productivity, recognition, and employee engagement activities;
- Serving as a trusted advisor by providing guidance and/or coaching to personnel on sensitive, confidential and complex HR issues;
- Participating in HR investigations and disciplinary meetings, conducting exit interviews and assisting with off-boarding processes;
- Serving as a resource to employees to promote engagement and positive employee relations.
- Participating in the firm’s Employee Resource Groups, providing support as needed;
HR Liaison/DEI Support
- Providing support to the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) for various diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and projects;
- Serving as a member of the firm’s DEI Committee and working with the CDO on annual Mansfield re-certification requirements;
- Developing and administering various Human Resources projects and procedures for personnel in conjunction with the HR Director;
- Updating and maintaining employment policies and procedures as needed;
- Recommending new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
HRIS/Reporting
- Compiling and analyzing data, completing and coordinating survey responses, and distributing data-driven various reports to firm management and attorneys;
- Providing data, reports and completing survey responses for various HR, client, and firm metrics;
- Serving as a functional liaison between HR and the IT department as well as third party vendors, as requested;
- Offering accurate information/support to employees on HR-related topics such as compensation, policies, and HR programs, and resolve any issues that may arise;
- Managing HR metrics; maintaining records, reports and logs to ensure compliance with EEO-1, regulatory, legal and certification requirements;
- Serving as a backup resource for entering employee adjustments and status changes; maintaining communication with payroll administration to ensure that all changes are processed;
- Supporting annual compensation program; modifying job descriptions; coordinating annual salary survey responses; compiling salary market data; analyzing compensation; monitoring the performance evaluation program, and providing other assistance to the HR Director (Compensation and Benefits), as requested;
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field; PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus;
- 5+ years of HR generalist and recruitment experience;
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrable experience with various HR disciplines including performance management, employee relations, talent management, HRIS and compensation programs;
- Computer literacy and expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
- Experience working with HR databases/HRIS platforms required; experience with UltiPro/UKG, Cognos reporting, and viDesktop is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills; excellent time and project management skills.
- Ability to analyze problems, exercise good judgment, strategic thinking, and make sound objective decisions;
- Capability to advise and persuade others and develop strong relationships and engagement; ability to maintain confidentiality and put effort in earning trust;
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; proficient with data compilation, survey completion and data reporting;
- Knowledge and ability to read and interpret policies, laws, regulations, and internal procedures;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization in a diverse work environment;
- Positive attitude and professional demeanor; ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times;
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team and work well independently, taking initiative and being a self-starter; ability to effectively work in a hybrid work environment;
