Description
This position is categorized as a Part-Time, Year-Round, hourly, non-exempt position. The workload for this position is varied based on the time of the year. Scheduled days within the department vary based on department needs. Flexibility on weekends is required. The HR Assistant/Recruiter directly reports to the HR Generalist.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
GUEST SERVICE
o Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external Retail Garden Center customers.
o Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
o Uphold standards for a strong company image that invites guests to repeat their business.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EXECUTE AND MAINTAIN RECRUITING PLANS
o Assist with the creation and maintenance of job descriptions.
o Communicate with departments regarding staffing needs and work with HR Generalist to conduct recruitment planning meetings.
o Create internal and external job postings using appropriate language complying with department of labor requirements.
o Use different recruiting techniques to source for qualified candidates to effectively fill open positions. This includes but is not limited to posting on professional networking sites, online job boards, college career boards, workforce centers, newspaper classifieds, and any other position appropriate venues.
o Plan and execute hiring events both in-house and offsite to attract and hire candidates.
NETWORK THROUGH INDUSTRY CONTACTS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND EMPLOYEES
o Build professional relationships and networks with external staffing sources to develop a qualified candidate pool preemptively of company needs.
o Maintain regular contact with possible future candidates.
o Document and compile information regarding sources of qualified candidates.
o Use social and professional networking sites to identify and source candidates.
o Communicate with managers and employees regularly to establish rapport, gauge morale, and source new candidate leads.
INTERVIEWING AND HIRING QUALIFIED CANDIDIDATES
o Review applicant documents to evaluate if they meet the position requirements.
o Conduct prescreening interviews (via telephone, electronic medium, or in person) depending on the position.
o Assist in performing reference checks for potential employees.
o Contact each applicant via phone or email confirming receipt of application and any additional information necessary, i.e., screening for position(s), scheduling FTF interview.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND RECORD KEEPING
o Track and maintain all pertinent applicant documents, internal forms, and interview data in HRIS.
o Assist in preparing and distributing new employee orientation packages prior to the employee's first day of work.
o Communicate with qualified applicants and coordinate with supervisor and the candidate to schedule an employee's first day of work.
o Conduct New Hire Onboarding. Communicate policies and procedures to new and rehired staff members.
o HR Assistant and HR Generalist coordinate and conduct Staff Development trainings.
In addition to the duties listed above, the HR Assistant/Recruiter will be required to assist with other special projects or duties assigned by the HR Generalist.
COMMUNICATION
- All employees always treat guests and co-workers with friendliness, respect, and professionalism.
- Answer guests' questions and escalate to department Supervisor if needed.
CLEANING AND SAFETY ADHERENCE
- Recognize and resolve any hazards which may cause a safety issue (wet floors, products in walking paths, etc.).
- Know the location of the SDS information and understand and follow the instructions.
- Adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
o Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors.
o Exposure to outdoor weather conditions varies; to include inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, cold).
o The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, as assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. o Must be at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
o High School graduate, GED, or equivalent education is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required.
o One to two years of experience in human resources or recruiting is preferred.
o Experience hiring at minimum 5-10 employees per week preferred.
o Must have intermediate computer skills including MS Office Suite (especially Excel and Word) along with record keeping skills.
o Must have some general knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
o Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
o Ability to work with various departments and foster teamwork.
o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
o Skills in database management and record keeping.
o Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of human resources work.
o Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
o Gather and analyze information skillfully.
o Interpret both verbal and written forms of communication in English; and communicate in a positive, professional, and timely manner without disclosing confidential employee or management information. Some language competence in Spanish preferred, but not required.
o Maintain a positive and professional work atmosphere while dealing with applicants, customers/clients, guests, managers, co-workers, and staff in a respectful and timely manner.
