Summary of Job
The Department of Planning and Development takes a leadership role in creating opportunities for our City to continue to grow and sustain our diverse communities that define and give Sheboygan its unique character to actively promote a diverse, safe, and dynamic community and enhance the living, working, and recreational choices for all Sheboygan citizens and visitors.
Under direction, assists with the housing rehabilitation program, promotes community engagement and assists with enforcing environmental health and housing code inspections.
Under direction, assists in the enforcement of environmental health and housing and performs related work.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and disseminates contracts, ensuring the maintenance of all required records.
- Conducts initial inspections for the housing rehabilitation program, works with contractors and conducts interim and final inspections prior to payments.
- Process and document contractor payments.
- Assist the department with planning efforts including the Community Development Block Grant Consolidated Plan. May assist with surveys, booths and activities at summer events to receive feedback for planning purposes.
- Performs exterior housing inspections including nuisance control duties.
- Investigates citizens’ complaints related to the above.
- Keeps accurate records and completes the necessary reports, forms and summaries.
- Performs related work and duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Public contact experience and demonstrated ability to maintain effective public relationships.
- Working knowledge of the basic principles and practices of environmental health and construction.
- Ability to apply departmental laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to secure facts through inspections.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.
- Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and an insured automobile for use on the job.
- Ability to prepare and keep accurate records and present effective oral and written reports.
- Ability to lift “live weight” in excess of 35 pounds safely.
- Ability to work a varied schedule, if necessary.
- May need to work outside of normal working hours including occasional weekends.
